I am trying to cleanup an infected PC. Norton tells me that it is virus free. I have downloaded and run both SpyBotSD and Ad-Aware. I ran Hijack This and have included the log below. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

    Hello,chafmich & Welcome

Wow you have a lot of work to do here but first
i need for you to move HijackThis to a folder in C:\Drive like so C:\HJT

1)Go for free online Virus scans here:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

2)Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference.

    First:
Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
    • Install ewido security suite
    • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
    • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
    • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
    • Click on scanner
    • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
      • Binder
      • Crypter
      • Archives
    • Click on Start Scan
    • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop

3)Please download miekiemoes' LQfix batch here:
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/LQfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please run LQfix.bat. When finished, restart your computer in normal mode and please do this next

    4)Download L2mfix from this location:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe or if that link is not working download it from this location: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

Then post a new logfile & the other logfiles

    HGD

    Hi,chafmich

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:
    casclient.exe
    PSof1.exe
    WeirdOnTheWeb.exe
    kljpl.exe
    Ssk.exe
    Cfprbi.exe
    svcproc.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
    WeirdOnTheWeb
    SurfSideKick 3
    CAS Client

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    Hello,

    Sorry for the delay.

I ended the process casclient.exe. The others were not running.

I was unable to remove the software from Add/Remove Programs. WeirdOnTheweb was in the removePrograms list, but an attempt to uninstall gave me an error that suggested the program was already uninstalled. I checked the ProgramFiles directory and there was an empty folder named WeirdontheWeb. I deleted it. SurfSideKick 3 was not in the RemovePrograms list. There was an empty folder in the Program Files directory. I deleted it. CAS Client was also not in the Remove Programs list. It was in the Program Files directory and there was an uninstall.exe there. I ran it. The CAS Client directory is gone.

With HJT. I checked all that were in my list. 2 were no longer there:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CAS Client] "C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casclient.exe"
    O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casmf.dll
Perhaps the uninstall of that app cleaned these up.

None of the files or folders existed that were to be deleted in safe mode. There is a cfgmgr52 folder in my Windows directory. Is this necessary? I deleted all files from the c:\temp folder.

    New HJT log file:

    Hi,

I took a vacation - that's why there was a lag in response - that and it took me 3 days to get all the windows updates over a slow dial-up. What a good time.

Anyway, the system seems to be running well. I have done all you suggested except the crap cleaner - will work on that next.

Thanks for all your help. Here's the latest HJT log.
