Is there anything else I need to do?
-
I have one more question for you... How did all these bad files get into my system unbeknownst to me, and how do I guard against that happening again?
-
Please see message #9 HERE look under preventing it returning. It's from Owen
-
Thanks, Bear. I did follow all steps outlined in that #9 message from Owen, so hopefully there won't be any more problems. But I would appreciate answers to my questions above re. how I got to have all this junk without knowing it. Thanks.
-
Basically, low IE Security settings, lack of protection can some it all up. It can also come bundled with software and you will never know unless you either have 1. Protection 2. Read the license agreement and the small print.
If you think well I have an Antivirus program and Firewall, a firewall is a firewall and stops hackers and antivirus program is an antivirus program and stops viruses. There is one gaping gap that probably causes more problems than the latter, Spyware. No protection, your just another victim for the makers money making scheme.
-
Thanks again, Owen, both for your help and for the explanation. You've certainly made at least one Internet user very much aware of the problem. And since I happen to be a widely published IT consultant and analyst, maybe I can help enlighten many other people, especially business executives who are my clients, about the Spyware problem. (If you're interested about my work, you can check out the Annex Research web site - www.djurdjevic.com).
Thanks again and all the best!
Bob Dj.

I hope these 1000 posts I've made more than one person aware. An infection and annoying problems is a punishment that will not only make people aware, it will make them protect themselves because they wouldn't want it to happen again. Then hopefully they'll spread it to their friends and family.
