    Re: Another HJT logfile if anyone can take a look for me please!

    Okay, I decided to try a fresh install using my own SP2 disk in the hope that at least Windows would run properly, but still got a bunch of failed files during install. THese were;

    WINLOGON.EXE <-- retry, passed
    CLICONFG.EXE <-- retry, passed
    CLICONFG.RLL <-- retry, passed
    CLIPSRV.EXE <-- retry, failed, skipped

    Later, I got a notice : WMIAPSRV.EX_ would not copy (from D:\i386) and had to skip as retry did not pass.

    Anyway, pc is up and running (am on it now, have downloaded HJT and here is the latest scan;

    Well (back home now) I sat with the PC for a good half hour, 45mins or so and it ran faultlessly. No blocking me out of any programmes, or freezing me out of anything - no windows messages either.

    Donwloaded and installed AVG, Zonealarm, Spybot and Spyware Blaster aswell as configuring XP Firewall. Even did the latest Windows Update aswell, and it seems to be running XP SP2 quite happliy (so far, fingers crossed!)

    THing is tho, I hadn't even had ZOnealarm on there for much more than 20mins, and in that time it had blocked 40 access attempts (didn't say what they were, might not have even been malicious, but still - my PC at home only gets about 5 a month, not 40 in 20 mins!!!) I think it must be to do with the ISP and the modem used (512k ADSL connection) whereas mine is done on a router so has internal firewall..... I dunno, just struck me as odd is all.

    Will keep you informed as to how it runs HJT - thanks!
    Matt

    Chatting to my pal who works in IT he says it is likely that the problem is still in the HDD, and it's a known problem to affect SP1 systems, stopping you from downloading SP2 amongst messing up your system. But if you install from an SP2 disk, it "blankets" the problem and stops it resurfacing, so it can't cause any runtime problems with the new SP2 system.

    So just gonna monitor it and will post back if he gets any problems with it

    Thanks again tho HJT
