    about:blank

For more than a week, I have been doing battle with about:blank. Using Spybot, Safe Mode, and Google searchs, I killed enough evil processes to allow SpyFerret to run to completion. SpyFerret removes about:blank, but about:blank returns ever time I touch Internet Explorer. On top of this, scanning my hard drive with Norton Anti-virus consistantly leads to a system lockup. I'm ready to reformat my hard drive if that is the easiest solution. What do you suggest?

Here is the HijackThis log file. At the point this log file was captured, both SpyBot and SpyFerret do not detect any pests.

Excellent! It's gone. I can take the gun out of my mouth now.

I couldn't complete everything on your list. Like with Norton Anti-virus, scanning my hard drive with Housecall Anti-virus caused a system lock up. I think this is unrelated to about:blank, so I'll search the DAL data base and start a new thread if necessary.

Below is the HijackThis log file and the AboutBuster log file. The following still show up in the HijackThis log file:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Let me know if I should do something more.

    Thanks a million,
    ReadyToReformatHD (not)

    Hi,ReadyToReformatHD

Hmm not sure why they came back see if doing the fix in Safe Mode helps
    talking about these 2 here.

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

as for the Virus scanning not sure but you may need to
disable your scanner first not sure so ask at one of the
other forums before you do it
