Hi,alex542
First thing i need from you is to move HijackThis to a folder
in C:\Drive like so C:\HJT
i also have to ask do you have any idea what these here are
SpybotSDE.exe
on we go
NOTE not sure if this will be there have a look anyway
Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit OK
Scroll down and find the service called.
HardDrive Managements (AppToService_HardDrive Managements) - Basta Computing
Make sure it is selected in color. Right click on the service and click on stop. Right click on it again and go to Properties. In the Properties screen and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled in the dropdown box. Click on Apply. Then OK. If the service isn't listed go ahead with the rest of these instructions anyway.
Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:
SpybotSDE.exe<--Will say it again only if you did not install or have an idea of what it is
systeminfos.exe
nhcv32.exe
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.
Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:
These items here if don't need or not using fix them
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-qus7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-qus7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-qus7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-qus7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-qus7.hpwis.com/
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
These 2 items here any idea what they are if no fix them
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpybotSde] SpybotSDE.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSde] SpybotSDE.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Compaq Service Drivers] systeminfos.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Compaq Service Drivers] systeminfos.exe
O23 - Service: HardDrive Managements (AppToService_HardDrive Managements) - Basta Computing - C:\Program Files\Common Files\nhcv32.exe
Make sure you can view hidden and system files: Instructions here
Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here
Delete the following files\folders IF still present:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\[b]nhcv32.exe
Sill in Safe Mode do a file Search for these if found delete them
SpybotSDE.exe<--Again as said above if you don't know or did not install this item fix it make sure
systeminfos.exe
Then do a reboot see how it is

HGD:
Thank you for your follow-up and persistence in this. Your time is appreciated!
I did everything as instructed, and it might have helped, but I still have "viruses in archives" that I can't remove.
Questions: When it says archives, what is it talking about? I've encountered some things that are supposedly password protected. What would these be and how do I access them? If we've reached a dead end on this, maybe i need somen repair person to look at the computer?
Thanks again for all your time and attention.
ALEX

Hi,alex542
Well first if it is saying that they are password protected
& you or someone using the PC did not add any password
then you have a problem get me.
now here are somethings i want you to do for me
1)SSS. See the link for a complete list of features.
http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=15083
2)To turn off Windows XP System Restore
1. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
Click Apply.
Click Yes to do this.
Click OK.
Then Restart your computer.
To turn on Windows XP System Restore
After you have restarted, turn System Restore back on
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
NOTE
Please create a new restore point once you have System Restore back on.
To create a new System Restore Point, click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.
When the System Restore Utility opens, click "Create a Restore Point" then click Next.
Enter a name for this Restore Point, and click Create.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=sec_doc_nam
3)Clean out the Quarantine folder of the Virus scanner
4)After doing all of the above if all is well run a full system
Virus scan let me know what if anything it finds
HGD
-
HGD:
I did what you suggested, and it seemed to make a difference. I was able to delete SPR/toolserviceR.E, SPR/Tool.hideRun.d, and SPR/Furootkit. Then I deleted a file that had 3 viruses, c:\windows\system32. It did not say what the virus was, just beeped 3x. I hope this isn't a vital file. So I believe I am okay for now. If so, thanks for the help; if not, talk with you soon.
ALEX

Hi,alex
The best thing to do is show us one more logfile
just to be on the safe side.
