I think theres loads of pop ups when I use Internet Explorer, but I use Firefox most of the time now, so it may of got quiet bad without me realising.

I also get warned about a virus from AVG, but can't do anything except "continue", heal, info and what else the other option are unavalible for this object. It's in C:\windows\system32\hlpmoj.dll and is a Trojan horse BackDoor.Agent.BA (apparently!?). It comes up when ever I open a programe

The log may show if these things are bacd but my Sygate firewall also has some stuff blocked because I don't know what they are

    NT Kernel & System from C:\windows\System 32\notskrnl.exe

Generic host for win 32 services from from C:\windows\System 32\svchost.exe

NWLINK2 IPX Protocol Driver from C:\windows\System
    32\DRIVERS\nwlnkipx.sys

    LSA Shell(Export version) from from C:\windows\System 32\lsass.exe

NDIS User mode I/O Driver from from C:\windows\System 32\drivers\ndisuio.sys

SNMP Service from from C:\windows\System 32\snmp.exe

Are any of these safe to allow to connect to the internet. Everytime I start up NT Kernel & System is said to of changed and is logged as a major something or other.

Sorry if all that is in the HJT log, but I thought it best to mention it all.

    Thanks

    Terry

    Hello,mrthingy & Welcome

We will be working all this from Safe Mode
but first i need you to download this prog here
    do not use just yet.

popular programs for doing this, is a freeware program Called Crap Cleaner. Crap Cleaner is a single utility that lets you clear your Cookies, Internet Explorer History, Empty the Recycle Bin, Uninstall Programs, Clear Usage Tracks and much more. As well as this, it has an Advanced Registry Scanner. Using a program like this is one of the easiest methods.

Make sure you can view hidden and system files: Instructions here

Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:NavigationFailure
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

    O16 - DPF: {FFFF0003-0001-101A-A3C9-08002B23E0CC} - http://direct.data-line.us/gbn283.exe
    O16 - DPF: {FFFF0003-0001-101A-A3C9-08002B23E0CD} - http://direct.data-line.us/gba208.exe

    O18 - Filter: text/html - {10810EBA-4E69-4238-A949-79DB4164FACE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eco.dll
    O18 - Filter: text/plain - {10810EBA-4E69-4238-A949-79DB4164FACE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\eco.dll

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlpmoj.dll

Delete the following files\folders IF still present:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\eco.dll<---This file
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\rtneg.dll<---This file

Now once you do the fix run the prog i had you download above

    then do this here

    click start->settings->control panel->internet options->programs tab->RESET WEB SETTINGS

That will change everything back to defaults (M$)......

Change your homepage and search engines to whatever you wish and reset your pc.

When it boots back up, open IE and see if the page stays the way that you set it.

    & this here

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
    1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

& last before you come back here do this

Go for free online Virus scans here:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

then show us a new logfile & give us any info you think
    we need to know.

    Adware:Adware/StartPage.DD C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\TemporaryInternesFiles\Content.IE5\GXC7CJ GN\protector_update[1].exe

I couldn't find the folders for some. I cant find content.IE5, not in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\TemporaryInternesFiles anyway, nor DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1. I can view hidden files and foldersbut these seem to just not be there.

My responses may be a bit irregular, as I will not have the internet on this computer so I'll have to find one I can use to read and post responses.

    Cheers

I had a look through that log, I have no idea what most of it is, but I noticed that some where in there that you asked me to get rid of. so I've gone through the process again. I think I must of messed it up, it seems to of gotten rid of them this time.

I can't remember putting any trusted IP ranges into my copmuter. Is there progrmes that do that? Anyway, I didn't delete it because I don't know if I need it of not

    Hi,mrthingy

Well the logfile looks good but for one item

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlpmoj.dll

Make sure you can view hidden and system files: Instructions here

Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here

Delete the following files\folders IF still present:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlpmoj.dll<---This file

    Then do a reboot

now i have some progs for you to download install
update all of them & keep them updated.

SpywareBlaster - Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard - An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware!
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD is a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer.
    https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

and this prog here will help keep your PC clean.

popular programs for doing this, is a freeware program Called Crap Cleaner.

You should also think about using Firefox & Mozilla & us IE for updates

    Get your Firefox here

    Mo who

& as for the IP i think it's part of your ISP

    Hi,mrthingy

Also get this here out of the way

    click start->settings->control panel->internet options->programs tab->RESET WEB SETTINGS

That will change everything back to defaults (M$)......

Change your homepage and search engines to whatever you wish and reset your pc.

When it boots back up, open IE and see if the page stays the way that you set it.

    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

well that's about it you did a great job there
