Question System Freezing & Blue Screen Problems

I was referred to you by a Dell Tech. In the past few days, wonderful Windows ME has caused me plenty of headaches on my Dell 4100 system. The problems are:

    1) Blue Screen when I power on my system: Doesn't happen all the time.

    2) When surfing the Net, the system freezes. Unable to move the mouse. Plus, Control-ALT-Delete is also frozen. So, I need to press the restart button on my CPU

    3) I receive Kernel32.dll errors every now and then.

    4) I received an RPCRT4.dll error the other night while surfing the Net.

I do have Ad-Aware and SystemWorks 2004 on my system. I fragmented my hard drive over a week. It took some time because I had to run ScanDisk and address the error messages.

Attached is my Hijack This Log. Can you determine if there's a problem? I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

P.S. I plan to purchase a new hard drive and upgrade to Windows XP in the next few weeks. Yet, I want my system to keep running before I make the switch.

    Thanks again!

    Hiosilv4

    3) I receive Kernel32.dll errors every now and then.
Well, I'm not sure about your other problems, but, I thought I'd let you know about kernel32.dll incase you don't know.

kernel32.exe is a Floodnet virus and attempts to send e-mails to everyone using Outlook aliases. This program is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. Note! kernel32.dll is the most important Microsoft Windows Kernel. Functionality addressing most of windows functions are linked to this kernel DLL in some way.
You can go to http://www.processlibrary.com/direct...el32/index.php to find out more about kernel32.

Thanks for your tips! I disabled CleanSweep from Startup. Ad-aware and Ad Watch were not launching on start up. Regarding Apitrap.dll, in reading the Micrsoft link, it seems to affect IE 5. I have 6. Did this still apply to me. I'm now experiencing freeze-ups when I power up my system. So, I have to press restart. I forgot to include HPZSTATX has caused an error in RPCRT4.DLL in my first message. Does that pinpoint my problem? Do all these recent errors mean my hard drive is slowly dying?

HJThis & Jnadel: Here's the latest update as of 6/13 at 7am CT. Yesterday, my system kept freezing while using the desktop and Internet. I was ready to throw my computer in the trash. So, I gathered my thoughts and decided to run ScanDisk (thorough) and Defrag. I also inserted a line in my 386Enh section to System.ini file. The line is MaxPhysPage=40000. I read about this fix in Microsoft article 304943 re: ME systems with more that 1.5GB RAM. Instability can occur. My system is 2.0GB. I don't know if the scanning, defrag and/or system.ini change is responsible for my better performance since yesterday afternoon. I have not experienced any freeze-ups since the fixes (knock on wood). I hope that my good luck continues until I upgrade to XP, increase memory and reinstall new hard drive. I'm tired of ME and all of its problems.

Thanks again for your assistance. You both were a tremendous help! If another problem arises, I'll post another message.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
HJThis: I guess I spoke too soon. My system freezing has returned. Happening while surfing the Internet. Mouse freezes. Control, ALT, DEL becomes inoperable. Receiving no error messages. I'm sure freezing will also occur soon on the desktop. Any ideas why this is happening? It this related to Windows ME? I surely welcome your input!
