SiteBar tries to install at startup - possible hijack?
Something called SiteBar asks to install every time I startup. From what I've read this is actually a hijacker?
If I use the system configuration utility to take
Windows\system32\ysbinstall_1002648_3.exe
out of startup it no longer appears but I'd like to know how to get rid of it.
Spybot and AdAware don't seem to catch this problem.
I downloaded HijackThis just today because I though it might help you experts to figure out what's going on - I certainly have no clue how to interpret the results!
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for your help.
I followed your instructions and the "sitebar" problem certainly seems to be gone - thanks so much.
But now I seem to have (maybe?) a new problem.
While I was trying to figure out what was going on with this "sitebar" thing I ran a scan with something called StopSign. It will let you scan your computer for free but if you want to fix anythig you have to buy their product of course ......
It picked up the Sitebar thing when Spybot and AdAware did not.
So I ran it again to see if it looked clean now and now its picking up something new. It says I have 8 copies of
Win32.HLLM.Netsky.22016 or .35328
So I figured I really needed some updated virus software (my Norton is out of date) and I downloaded and ran AVG.
It does NOT find this Netsky thing. So do I have a virus or not? I am once again very confused!
Your help with the sitebar thing was great. I'd appreciate anything you can tell me about this Netsky.
thanks

Hi,Clueless
The thing to do is show us a new HJT logfile & also do this
here lit us know anything it finds
Go for free online Virus scans here:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Thanks for the links to the free virus scan sites.
The housecall scan came up clean - just as AVG had. But the pandasoftware active scan came up with 42 infected files.
Is this because it checks a lot more files? I noticed it checked all the email files and everything - and that's where many of the problems were.
It disinfected most of the problems and the ones that are left are all in local settings\temp files or temporary internet files. Should I just delete those files?
Will that take care of it?
In general, is it a good idea to periodically delete all temporary files?
And if I delete temporary internet files does that have an effect when I go to a site where I WANT to be recognized and have my preferences known - or when I've "lost" a site I liked and want to get back to it using the History?
I have the same question regarding cookies - adware/spyware scans always come up with all the cookies. But if I want to be recognized at some sites, don't I need some of those cookies? How do I know what's ok to keep and what's not?
Another general question - in the interests of keeping this stuff off my machine in the first place - I'm currently running AVG (though I seem to be having a problem with it - it seems like it's interfering with the downloading of my email) - from what I've been reading it looks like AVG is one a lot of people are using and recommend. But it didn't find any of the stuff already on my computer (that pandasoftware activscan DID find). Is AVG sufficient? Or would I be better updating Norton? Or is there another you would recommend?
I'm trying to get the hang of all this stuff I feel like I'm learning but its still really overwhelming! I appreciate all your help.
I'm going to include the current HijackThis log - if you could let me know if anything looks suspicous, that would be great.
Thanks again!

Hey,Clueless
Yes temp files are safe to delete no need to have them
as far as the Virus scanning yes some will scan in more
places then others so always look before you click ok
deleting temporary internet files should not give you
any problem with going back to sites you like
ok cookies this is a hard one to talk about what i do
is keep the ones from sites that i think i want to keep
like say here at D-A-L & so on so i would have to till
you just think before you say yes someone here may have
better info on this then me
as for AVG & E-Mail i think what is going on is that the option
to scan E-Mail is on yes/no & a good idea at that if you have
it set that way keep it
now not sure if i did this with you so here gos keep them updated
