    Hello,stuizzy & Welcome

    &

Please change the location of HijackThis.exe.
Create a new folder in your C: Drive
Name it C:\HJT or HijackThis and move the HijackThis.exe file in it.
It's best for this tool NOT TO be located in your Desktop or in a TEMP folder.
This way you can undo any changes if something goes wrong

Please do not fix anything yet try this

Please download the Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool. You must have administrative rights. Follow the steps below to run the tool:

    * Close all the running programs.
    * If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, disconnect the computer from the network and the Internet.
    * Locate the file that you just downloaded.
    * Double-click the FixVundo.exe file to start the removal tool.
    * Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.

Important: Do not launch any new applications while the tool is running.

    When the scan is done:

    * Restart the computer.
    * Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.
    * If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, reconnect the computer to the network or to the Internet connection and reboot your computer.

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGITIMATE AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

    HGD

    Hi,stuizzy

We will need to remove the vundo infection manually. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

    Step #1

Please download Process Explorer by Sysinternals and unzip it to your desktop.

Also download Killbox by Option^Explicit and unzip it to your desktop.

    Step #2

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document:

    Quote:
    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{44240BB 5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44}]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSEvents.MSEvents]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSEvents.MSEvents.1]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEve nts]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEve nts.1]

Save the document to your desktop as fixvundo.reg and close Notepad.

    Step #3

The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Make sure you have printed out these instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:

    * Restart the computer.
    * As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
    * Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
    * Press the Enter key.

Locate procexp.exe on your desktop and double-click it to start Process Explorer.

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of vgalog.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the vgalog.dll's under winlogon click OK.

If you see any .ini or .bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well.

Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of vgalog.dll then click the kill button.

Again, if you see any .ini or .bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {B8B55274-0F9A-41E5-9067-A3539BD9E860} - C:\WINDOWS\java\vgalog.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: vgalog - C:\WINDOWS\java\vgalog.dll

Close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Now locate the fixvundo.reg file on your desktop and right-click on it. Choose Merge and answer Yes or Ok if you get any other prompts.

    Step #4

Double-click on KillBox.exe to start the program.

    * Click Delete on Reboot.
    * Paste the line below into the top Full Path of File to Delete box.
    C:\WINDOWS\java\vgalog.dll
    * Click the Delete File button which looks like a stop sign.
    * Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
    * Click Yes at the Delete next Reboot prompt.
    * If you get a PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process! message then just restart manually.

    Step #5

After your computer reboots normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Thanks for the help. The search 42 problem seems to have gone. The items in the hijack this log refereing to ge.com are probably something to do with GE - the company I work for. I use this computer to log onto the GE network for e-mail etc. There was no dll in the c:/windows/addins directory

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    Hi,stuizzy

So it looks like the problem is gone now i have some software
for you to download install update them all.

    but first do this here

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
    1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

    & last the tools

SpywareBlaster - Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SpywareGuard - An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware!
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

IE-SPYAD is a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer.
    https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

and this prog here will help keep your PC clean.

popular programs for doing this, is a freeware program Called Crap Cleaner. Crap Cleaner is a single utility that lets you clear your Cookies, Internet Explorer History, Empty the Recycle Bin, Uninstall Programs, Clear Usage Tracks and much more. As well as this, it has an Advanced Registry Scanner. Using a program like this is one of the easiest methods.

You should also think about using Firefox & Mozilla & us IE for updates
