    Question Hijackthis log - CPU @ 100%

    Hey, since you guys helped me out so much, I figured I would try again! My mom's computer has been periodically running at 100% locking everything up until i restart. I have gone through the startup list recently and took out unnecessary programs, but it still keeps happening. Seems to be associated with msn messenger, but that could be a coincidence because it doesnt happen everytime. Here is my Hijackthis log, Thanks in advance!!

    Thanks for the quick reply! Everything seems to be running well, but like I said, it was only locking up every now and then, but I am sure things will run better now. As well, I couldnt get rid of one of the files cause it said it was in use -> docvga.dll
    Here is my new logfile:

    Hi,lurla

    Sorry to hear this sad news now not sure on this one
    but have done any cleaning in the puter also did you
    try removing the cover off see if the fan is working

    what about the Ram's maybe & one other thing to
    try is cleaning the Registry & removing all the old junk files

    for the files try this here

    popular programs for doing this, is a freeware program calledCrap Cleaner. Crap Cleaner is a single utility that lets you clear your Cookies, Internet Explorer History, Empty the Recycle Bin, Uninstall Programs, Clear Usage Tracks and much more. As well as this, it has an Advanced Registry Scanner. Using a program like this is one of the easiest methods.

    & here is a reg cleaner it's try before you buy

    http://www.registry-cleaner.net/registry-cleaner.htm

    like i said not sure but give it a try

    Hey, I tried all the progs you recommended (crapcleaner, registry cleaner, trend micro and panda) and so far today we have been ok in regards to cpu usage... I am still wondering about that docvga.dll file though? i tried getting rid of it in safemode, and it still gives me that message about being in use. Any idea how to get rid of it or even what it is?? Trend micro says it is a Troj vonda.h or something similar to that?

    Hi,lurla

    Hmmmm lit's try something here

    Please download the Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool. You must have administrative rights. Follow the steps below to run the tool:

    * Close all the running programs.
    * If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, disconnect the computer from the network and the Internet.
    * Locate the file that you just downloaded.
    * Double-click the FixVundo.exe file to start the removal tool.
    * Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.

    Important: Do not launch any new applications while the tool is running.

    When the scan is done:

    * Restart the computer.
    * Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.
    * If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, reconnect the computer to the network or to the Internet connection and reboot your computer.

    OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it.

    DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGITIMATE AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

    Hi,lurla

    We will need to remove the vundo infection manually. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

    Step #1

    Please download Process Explorer by Sysinternals and unzip it to your desktop.

    Also download Killbox by Option^Explicit and unzip it to your desktop.

    Step #2

    Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document:

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{44240BB 5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44}]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSEvents.MSEvents]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MSEvents.MSEvents.1]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEve nts]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEve nts.1]

    Save the document to your desktop as fixvundo.reg and close Notepad.

    Step #3

    The rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

    Make sure you have printed out these instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

    Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:

    * Restart the computer.
    * As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
    * Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
    * Press the Enter key.

    Locate procexp.exe on your desktop and double-click it to start Process Explorer.

    In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

    Once you see this screen click on each instance of docvga.dll once and then click the kill button.

    After you have killed all of the docvga.dll's under winlogon click OK.

    If you see any .ini or .bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well.

    Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of docvga.dll then click the kill button.

    Again, if you see any .ini or .bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse, kill them as well.

    Once you have done that click OK again.

    Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {44240BB5-BD7D-4D49-A1AA-8AB0F3D3CB44} - C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\docvga.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: docvga - C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\docvga.dll

    Close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

    Now locate the fixvundo.reg file on your desktop and right-click on it. Choose Merge and answer Yes or Ok if you get any other prompts.

    Step #4

    Double-click on KillBox.exe to start the program.

    * Click Delete on Reboot.
    * Paste the line below into the top Full Path of File to Delete box.
    C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\docvga.dll
    * Click the Delete File button which looks like a stop sign.
    * Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
    * Click Yes at the Delete next Reboot prompt.
    * If you get a PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process! message then just restart manually.

    Step #5

    After your computer reboots normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.
