    Hijacked homepage....help me please!!

    Hi!

I found your site out of desperation! I have been using my boyfriends computer and his homepage has been hijacked by an advertisment for something called Evidence Eliminator. I can't get rid of it. I have tried to reset the Internet Explorer homepage to default but it doesn't work. I have downloaded both Spybot - Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware but even after running both, the homepage is still this Evidence Eliminator page. It makes me look like I have been searching for seriously dodgy stuff!

    My HijackThis log is below:

    Hello,Aussiegirl & Welcome

Please change the location of HijackThis.exe.
Create a new folder in your C: Drive
Name it C:\HJT or HijackThis and move the HijackThis.exe file in it.
It's best for this tool NOT TO be located in your Desktop or in a TEMP folder.
This way you can undo any changes if something goes wrong

*IMPORTANT* Be sure you know how to VIEW HIDDEN FILES
view hidden and system files: Instructions here

Press CTRL ALT DELETE to open Windows Task Manger. Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnut.exe<---your looking to stop this here

    Exit Task Manager.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocpl.dll/security.htm#subID=MPV;401
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://shdocpl.dll/asst.htm

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FastStart] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnut.exe home
    O4 - Startup: winupdate01830569[1].exe
    O4 - Startup: winupdate50767834[1].exe

Make sure you can view hidden and system files: Instructions here

Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here

Delete the following files\folders IF still present:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnut.exe<---This file

    & still in Safe Mode

do a file Search for these here if there delete them
    winupdate01830569[1].exe
    winupdate50767834[1].exe

after doing the above do this here

Go for free online Virus scans here:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

then till us how it is running & show us a new Logfile

Hi! Thank you so much for helping me with this...but I hate to tell you that I am stuck already! I am not quite sure what you mean by:

"Press CTRL ALT DELETE to open Windows Task Manger. Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svcnut.exe<---your looking to stop this here"

I got the CTRL ALT DELETE thing and got the Processes tab but then nothing starting C:\WINDOWS... etc came up. It was just a list of .exe files. I found svcnut.exe... do I just click on this and then click end process?

Sorry, this is probably a really stupid question but I am a total novice here!

Thank you so much again for helping.
