A quicky - hopefully
Hi Owen,
Hope you are keeping well.
I have found a mystery folder in one of my partitions (Not C) and am confused as to why it there and exactly what it is.
The folder is named 82153b1e49241034375cc9
and its contents are (the update folder contents marked with a dash):
update (a folder)
- update (an exe)
- spcustom.dll
- KB885836 (security catalogue)
- update (Setup info - text file)
- eula (txt file)
- update.ver
spuninst (an exe)
wordpad (the prog)
spmsg.dll (a dll funnily enough)
$shtdwn$.req (hidden)
empty (a security catalogue)
mswrd632.wpc
Any ideas welcome. I will copy the contents of the txt docs onto here if you need them. I am just about to upgrade m/b, chip, RAM, PSU and put a new H/D in to replace my current system drive and do not want to carry anything dodgy over. This is on my secondary drive so will be used in my new setup.
Cheers in advance.

I'm keeping very well, been a bit busy lately so sorry about the long response time.
That folder is not a problem, its actually related to a Windows Security Update. It has a copy of Wordpad because it actually a security update to a vulnerability in Wordpad, see here.
The question is, why is it located somewhere other than in the C:\Windows\$hf_mig$ where it should be located in a folder called KB885836. My advice would be to leave it alone, you may need it. First of all, just check whether the C:\Windows\$hf_mig$\KB885836 exists.
