I am having problems with severe slow down, inability to download or install certain programs (McAfree Privacy), only one out of 4 accounts is able to access the internet when they all were able to originally, and basic memory loss problems.

Any help you could offer would be much appreciated,
    DocSteiner

I followed your instructions. The computer appears to boot up faster; however, only one person of five is able to access the internet under their respective user account. I wanted to say that this problem developed after attempting to install an updated Mc Afee Privacy Service program. The Highjack This Log after making changes is as follows:

What I'd naturally suggest is uninstalling then reinstalling the Mcafee software if this caused the error.

    Hello Owen,

I have uninstalled the Mc Afee virus scan, firewall, and privacy service. The problem is that when I reinstall them, I'm able to install virus scan and the firewall service. However, for whatever reason, the privacy service will get about 75% through with the installation process and an error message pops up tell me to re boot, close all programs, .... and re install. All attempts always lead back to this error message. Is there an unknown file in the computer preventing me from doing this re installation??? If so, where do I find it. Short of re formatting the hard drive, I don't know what alternatives I have?

    Suggestions??

    Hello Owen,

The error messages I receive when attempting to download McAfee Privacy service are as follows:

    1st - Notice

VBScript: McAfee Security Center Installation Wizard

An error occurred while installing McAfee Privacy Service.

We recommend that you retry the installation:
    1. Save all of your work and close any applications on your computer.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Reinstall McAfee Privacy Service.

    OK

The Page under this notice reads:

    Privacy Service Installation Wizard

An error occurred while downloading the installation package of McAfee Privacy Service.

Such errors often occur due to system errors. We recommend that you do the following:

Save all of your work and close any open applications on your computer.

    Restart your computer.

    Reinstall McAfee Privacy Service.

Owen, I've done this repeatedly over the past months and always come back to these aforementioned error messages. I'm sure there is a file that is in the computer that is preventing this download from happening and which prevents the other users of this computer to get into the Internet - only one user can connect with the internet.

    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Fix these entries in Hijack This:

    O16 - DPF: {4ED9DDF0-7479-4BBE-9335-5A1EDB1D8A21} (McAfee.com Operating System Class) - http://bin.mcafee.com/molbin/shared...76/mcinsctl.cab

Then try the Mcafee Download again.
