Automatic Updates not being installed
Hi,
Windows automatic updates are not being installed on my laptop. They are downloading automatically but when I try and install them I get a message (after a few seconds) saying they cannot be installed.
Anyone have any ideas why this might be? I have been trying for some time but the same thing keeps happening.
Cheers,
Jazz

Have you tried changing the settings in Control Panel to automatically Download and Install. If you need help with this, I'll need to know you version of Windows (including Service Pack).

Hi Owen,
I've already got it set to automatically download and install updates.. The problem is that when it tries to install I get a message saying "Updates were unable to be successfully installed. The following updates were not installed:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)"
It's been trying to install this same update for ages. I tried going to Microsoft.com and downloading the update manually but even that didn't work.

Is that the only update your having problems with?
Go to Control Panel, double click Add/Remove programs and uninstall Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1. When its been removed, go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click Custom Install. On the left click Select Optional Updates and choose Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1. Install it again, then after its installed, try and get the update for it again.

Hi Owen,
Tried doing as you suggested but still getting the same message.
Any other ideas?

What firewall are you running?

ZoneAlarm.
I've just been to Microsoft's site and tried to manually download any updates, and it said there aren't any to install. It seems the problem may have fixed itself!

Well thats very strange. My suggestion was to disable your firewall whilst scanning for Windows Updates. I know of firewalls that prevent Windows Update working correctly.
