    AVG keeps shutting down

    Hi

My AVG software shuts down a few seconds after it's started up. Any ideas why? Or what I can do?

    I'm running XP Home Edition.

The Grisoft anti virus program? Are you running any other av programs as well. What error message do you get?

Didn't get any error messages at all. It just shut itself down after a few seconds. Also Msconfig shut down after a few seconds too, as did Trojan remover - infact, everything that could have helped me get rid of whatever it was, shut itself down!

Luckily I found it in my processes - configldr.exe And deleted it. All my anti virus stuff is working again.

    Thanks anyway though

Ok its WORM_AGOBOT.FW you've got then. Heres a page with info and steps to get rid of it. http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...WORM_AGOBOT.FW

i basically have the same problem, but i can't find configldr.exe anywhere. i was careful to follow trendmicro's instructions properly, but it's just not there.. does this mean i have a different problem with the same symptoms? or i'm doing something terribly wrong?

and oh yes, my MSWord is completely unusable. does this have something to do with it?

    many thanks

    Have you tried reinstalling office/word?
Download Hijack this, place it in its own folder, close all open programs and run it. Save the log and post back in the spyware section here.

umm, no.. i hadn't tried reinstalling the Word because i hadn't thought about it as the actual problem (should i?) .. the whole computer's actually sluggish, with everything not working unless you wait for about 5-15 seconds ...the Word was the worst, not functioning at all except probably just opening existing documents and printing them

and i hadn't notice it until now, but the AVG and norton don't actually shut down unless i connect to the internet first because the same thing happened with hijack this

Hi Nikka, first off you have a virus:

Run one of the following on-line virus scans: Housecall or Bitdefender

Restart HijackThis and put checks next to the following, close all browser windows (including this one) then click on 'Fix Checked':

    O2 - BHO: IE Agent - {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000221} - C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\CSIE.DLL
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000762-3965-4A1A-98CE-3D4BF457D4C8} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000EF1-0786-4633-87C6-1AA7A44296DA} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: NavErrRedir Class - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar1_27.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: QuickSearch Search Bar - {82315A18-6CFB-44a7-BDFD-90E36537C252} - C:\Program Files\QuickSearch\QuickSearchBar1_27.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ClrSchLoader] C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\Loader.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WSAConfiguration] svchostx.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [WSAConfiguration] svchostx.exe

Make sure you have Set Windows to show Hidden Files & Folders, then reboot into safe mode then find and delete the following:

    C:\Program Files\ClearSearch <-------- Delete this folder.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchostx.exe <-------- Delete this file (NB. Make sure it has a 'x' at the end.)

Reboot, then post a fresh log and let us know if things have improved. There are still a couple of things to do.
