You've been infected with a variant of the Agobot Worm. Thanks for the praise

Read the note here about SpyHunter. It is not recommended.

Close all browser windows, restart Hijack This and put a checkmark next to the following entries:

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NS] ns.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [NS] ns.exe
O23 - Service: NS (MSLLR) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ns.exe" -service (file missing)

    Click Fix Checked

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and perform an Online Scan. Remove any infections it finds.

Reboot and post a fresh log

    Thanks Owen!
I ran another Hijack This, checked the items you listed, clicked Fix Checked then, though I didn't MEAN to, I rebooted. (Force of habit, I guess)
When I logged back on to Windows XP I got an error message that said:

" Generic host processfor Win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close.
System is shutting down in:___ seconds
The shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM because the Remote Procedure Call service terminated unexpectedly."

When I logged back on I went ahead and uninstalled SpyHunter, and ran another Hijack log. I noticed the last entry that I checked before: (023-Service:NS (MSLLR) - Unknown owner-C:\Windows\System32\ns.exe-service (file missing) ) was BACK!
I checked it again, clicked "Fix" and then went on to House call and had a scan done. Results:
no virus found. I rebooted, ran another Hijack This, that log follows:

Note: That last entry (023- Service: NS ...ect) is back AGAIN!
Someone told me a while back that Agobot installs itself into System Restore, and reinfects a machine each time you boot up. Could that be how "023-Service: NS"
    keeps coming back?

I've had several restarts since running that last Hijack This, and fixing the entries you listed. DAM_IT!!! I had high hopes that you guys had solved the problem just that quick and easy! It's just as well though, because my book doesn't have a heading for SUPER Heros!

OK, I guess THIS is where I'm to be patient and not start new threads, ect.
    Will do.

    Hello?
I posted the new log a couple of days ago, per your request.

Could you just say "wait" or something. Anything to let me know there is still someone
at this site, would be appreciated.

  6. #6
owen is offline D-A-L Team Member (UK)
Sorry about the wait. As you can see the forum whole forum has pretty much been halt because I've been very busy and haven't had time to come on. Posting wait would just make me think oh yes I've replied to that thread and then cause me to miss you. And of course if I'm not on the forum at all, I can't post wait. My apologies again.

Fix this entry in Hijack This:

O23 - Service: NS (MSLLR) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ns.exe" -service (file missing)

Boot into Safe Mode. Delete the following file if it exists:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ns.exe

Then reboot, go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com. Run an Online Virus Scan and let it remove any viruses it finds. If it can't remove them, note down the Name of the virus and location of the file and post it back to me.

    Post a fresh log.

[QUOTE=owen]Sorry about the wait. And of course if I'm not on the forum at all, I can't post wait. My apologies again.

You don't owe me an apology, it's I who should apologize, and DO.
I make my living online, and these @#%* restarts are preventing me from doing that! The stress of that is getting to me, and making me impatient.
    Again, I offer MY apologies.

Fix this entry in Hijack This:

O23 - Service: NS (MSLLR) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ns.exe" -service (file missing)

Delete the following file if it exists:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ns.exe

If C:\WINDOWS\System32\ns.exe exists, I can't FIND it. However, I went into "Services" and found NS (MSLLR). I stopped it and disabled it.

I ran another log and 023-Service: NS (MSLLR)-Unknown owner.. ect.
is no longer there! That log follows below.

Then reboot, go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com. Run an Online Virus Scan and let it remove any viruses it finds. If it can't remove them, note down the Name of the virus and location of the file and post it back to me.

I've tried 3 times to run HouseCall, computer rebooted all three times before it finished. I'm going to turn it off for a while and try again later.

Here's the Hijack This log: NOTE: Had 3 reboots after this log

    Still appreciating your help,
    ~Hawk~

Right, when your system begins to reboot with the NT AUTORITY message, go to Start>Run and type shutdown -a. Then press enter. This will abort the system shutdown.

Then get to Housecall and peform the scan as said in the last post.

Right, when your system begins to reboot with the NT AUTORITY message, go to Start>Run and type shutdown -a. Then press enter. This will abort the system shutdown.

I don't get a NT Auth. message. My monitor suddenly goes black, and my pc restarts as though I had hit the reset button.

Then get to Housecall and peform the scan as said in the last post.

I've tried 3 more times to run housecall, each time I got an error message saying the files didn't load properly, and asking if I want to retry. I rebooted, and am going to try again now.
