For those of you who think your system is protected
For those of you who think your system is protected. I am really anal about tying to keep my system clean. I run spybot, ad aware, ms spyware, and Norton all the time. The other day my friend told me about spyware doctor so I decided to give it a try. Now you have to remember that none of these programs have picked up anything lately. So I ran this spyware doctor and it found 91 problems one being our friend bonzi buddy. If any of you try it let me know what your results are.

Different antispyware programs pick up different products. In some cases Spyware Doctor is better at cleaning the infection than others, but in other cases, other programs do better like Ad-aware or Webroot Spyware Sweeper, etc.
Please be aware that antispyware programs aren't always right and there are sometimes false positives.
Spyware Doctor has done quite well in tests, it was not always the best, the best in independent tests was Giant Antispyware which was bought by Microsoft and renamed as Microsoft Antispyware. Ad-aware always does quite well in tests as well, gets detection results similar to Spyware Doctor.
For anyone reading this, Spyware Doctor is available from www.pctools.com.

Thanks Owen for your response. I have found that you are correct on the false positives and the fact that other programs work better for different things. That is why I use multiple programs which is a pain the a$$. With that said I was really suprised when I ran this program and found these errors. I just wish that somebody would take the good parts from all these programs and make one so I don't have to do 4-5 scans with diffrent programs. If someone could make this product they would make a ton of money

Each company does their independent research and comes up with their own signature and have their own database of spyware so of course you are going to see differences. The majority of antispyware programs do detect most things but what varies between some is the scanning of the Registry and missing a few left over registry keys. Antispyware programs are getting better and better, but as they get better, so does the spyware.
One persons idea that reminds me of what you said is this page. It allows you to scan one file and it uses multiple antivirus programs to scan the file with. Therefore you will get accurate results. Its a very good idea and useful if you want to know if one file is infected. Something similar on the spyware side may be good, but with spyware, it acts differently than viruses.
If we would have one product, it would be one big company doing them all, so its not always the best of ideas. If that one company suffered problems then the one big program would go bust! I know its a little annoying running multiple scans. I have Spybot and Ad-aware and scan with them every week and they usually detect everything (usually nothing except the odd cookie).
