I've just notice you have Zone Alarm installed. Try temporarily disabling it while accessing Windows Updates. Some firewalls cause problems with Windows Update, I am aware that Kerio does.

Have tried to access Windows Update with Zone Alarm disabled, still does not work. I only get a blank screen that says 'Done'. I've also noticed that my IE does not show any details, ie version, etc.

I am also having problems searching files and folders (Start>Search). Screen pops up with the 'dog'. Thats about it. The whole screen is blank.

Last night I tried to download a free product from Microsoft's site but it didn't let me because of validation problem. My PC came with XP Home Edition preinstalled, so I don't understand whythere was a problem. I tried to validate with the product key from the PC case but I kept getting an error saying I need IE6 to be able to validate Microsoft products.

Could all these conflicts be something to do with SP2 ?

I'm using Firefox at the moment with no problems whatsoever.

Did these problems develop when you installed SP2 or when this spyware infection was removed, etc?

uninstall sp2 through add/remove programs then log back in to windows update and reinstall sp2 plus any thing else that is suggested i think whats happened is that you have a conflict problem betwean a part of sp2 and the bt browser

could you please let me know how you get on so i can help further if needed

    Hi

I uninstalled and re-installed SP2 as suggested. (Spent hours yesterday!) Hasn't made much difference apart from some programmes not functioning well. One good thing came out of this hough, was that I was able to receive Windows and Internet auto updates (there were loads of them, because I hadn't been able to access them manually nor automatcally). The BT Yahoo Browser still shows a blank window where usually I would find icons for all user accounts and would be able to open the browser from there.

At the moment I am connecting to the web by going through START>ConnectTo>BT Openworld Broadband. This does bring up my home page, which is the BT Yahoo home page. However, when I check the Internet Explorer version (Help>Internet Explorer..) it does not show a version number.

I have also noticed that I am unable to download free Windows products because for some reason it thinks my Windows is not validated for Genuine Authencity. I have tried to 'Validate Windows' through their link in 'How to Tell' but with no success. My PC came with Windows XP Home Edition pre-installed.

I'm tempted to uninstall BT Yahoo.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
I would be tempted to uninstall BT Yahoo as well, I do not like it at all. I have none of their software installed and just connect via the standard Windows connection program. You could try uninstalling then reinstalling BT Yahoo.

Do you get any specific error messages about the how to tell?
