Okay I have a problem . The disk check wont work because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some windows files on the disk. Do you understand? Gosh I hope. It asks me if I want it ti scan after I start my computer. Help please. Tara

Okay I hope I did this one right. When I got on my computer today it went right to my home page. Boy it hasn't done that one in a long time. there has been no more crashes. But again I have not been on for very long either.

Ok, now for the prevention bit.

You don't appear to have a firewall at the moment. A firewall is of paramount importance if you wish to protect yourself from all manner of malicious intent. I recommend either Kerio Personal Firewall or Sygate Personal.
Before installation, disconnect from the net, disable your Anti-Virus software (usually done by right clicking the Norton icon in the bottom right of your screen by the clock and selecting disable or close down from the options) and turn off the XP2 firewall via Start> Control Panel> Security Centre. Once installed, switch Norton Anti-Virus back on again before going back online.

These other programs are essential in further protecting yourself:

SpywareBlaster
Protects against bad ActiveX and prevents Spyware being installed in the first place. Check for updates once a fortnight.

SpywareGuard
Alerts you to any attempted change to your browser settings.
Acts like an anti-virus program but for Spyware.

IE-SPYAD
Adds over 7000 sites to your IE Restricted Zone protecting you when visiting innocent-looking sites that aren't innocent at all.

* Keep your anti virus software updated and scan weekly with Spybot and Ad-Aware (links in my signature below)

Okay I went to the spyware Blaster site but don't know where to go from there. To many things to look at and I don't want to download the wrong thing. Also the same thing on the site of spyware guard. I did down load the IE-spyad. exe. I hope that is the right one . If not ,please let me. I ran it and it said that it got rid of 13 items. I guess that was a good thing.

Scroll down the Spywareblaster page and click on the blue writing which says:

Download Spywareblaster 3.2

When you've installed it, don't forget to use the update function to keep it current with the latest definitions. Check for updates once a month.

On the Spywareguard page, click on either of the Download Spywareguard 2.2 Full Setup links.

IE-SpyAd shouldn't get rid of anything. It simply adds thousands of dodgy websites to your Internet Explorer 'Restricted Zone' to prevent your browsing ever opening any of these pages in the first place.
