Help with spybot worm, HTL incl.
Hi,
Lately my AV (norton) has been informing me that w32.korgo.v, w32.korgo.w, w32.spybot and w32.HLLW.Gaobot.gen has been detected and more often than not it cannot delete the file. Im running XP sp1 and I tried to update tonight but it failed on two items twice so Im not certain that my OS is completely up to date. I run norton along with S&D and adaware and I generally surf with firefox but use winmx which is where I must have contracted the problem. Ive updated all of my scanners and even ran pandasoftware's online scan and while some of those have shown they deleted files it has regenerated itself.
I also ran through the instructions provided by Symantec and most of the registry values weren't present and I had no luck.
Here is my lates HTL after running everything tonight,

any help would be appreciated because Im about to network my PC with a new wireless adsl router and dont want to kill my laptop too.
Thanks,
Aussie
-
Where is Norton detecting these files?
-
Im at work atm but from memory it was c:\windows\system32\dllcache It pops up with a warning that it has been detected and sometimes it shows up when I scan manually.
Not too certain that last bit in red was consistently the case (or accurately remembered
)
Something else that might be noteworthy was that I found an application called tftp.exe which I didn't consciously install (i.e Im not running any ftp software unless winmx is ftp
) and when I delete it it regenerates itself automatically.
Thanks for the help,
Aussie

Let's see if these work.....

That's a screen print of the alert that Im getting, does that help?
-
Im also getting messages prompting me to go to patchwork.org to d/l some patches but I found out that it is a corrupt site. Ive now disabled messenger to prevent those messages.
-
Could you download and run the Korgo Worm removal tool from here and the Gaobot removal tool from here.
Follow the instructions on the pages. Then reboot and post a fresh log.

Thanks for this Owen. When I ran the korgo tool the first time it made the norton window pop up and found one file and deleted it so I rebooted and if still found another file and deleted it.
Also my internet is slowing down quite noticably, Im getting my adsl hooked up tomorrow, should I put it off even though it has a hardware firewall? atm Im not running any firewall and Im on dial-up.
-
Your virus problems will be causing you the trouble of a slowed down internet connection and the other spyware. Its your choice about the broadband, either way, I'll still be able to help you.
You need to first of all download this file and save it to your desktop. After you have downloaded that file, leave it for now and then download this file. You also need to save this file to the desktop. When you have downloaded it, unzip it and a file called lpt$vpn.NUMBER should appear on the Desktop.
Boot into Safe Mode and then double click the sysclean file. A program will appear. Click Scan at the bottom and a command prompt window will appear that will say Executing Pattern for various Worm and Virus names. The window will then disappear and the program will begin scanning your computer. Let it clean or delete any infected files it finds. After it has completed, reboot into Normal mode and post a fresh log.
-
Ive d/l the lpt162 file twice now and I seem to be having problems with it. The first time it wouldn't extract the lpt$vpn.NUMBER file onto the desktop so I deleted it and d/l it again. This time it told me there were no files to extract so Im trying again atm.
