Why doesn't any thing delete Altnet Spyware Altnet Spyware & Other Problems --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
As requested by Jophree:
I ran Spy Sweeper, Ad-Aware and Spybot S & D. They pickup Altnet Spyware. I click on Repair/Delete and both programs say they were deleted.
Spybot says :
Some problem's could not be fixed, the reason could be the associated files are still in use (in memory).
May Spybot run on your next system start up?
I click Yes, reboot, ir runs, picks up the same five errors, fixes four, and I get the same message. UPDATE : I read Stickey's comments on Spybot S & D above, I updated S & D yesterday, but just to be sure, I I followed the link, and re-downloaded again,and re-scanned.
Besides still finding the below DSO Exploit items, it foind this additional one:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2914288250-3088433937-182217317-1008\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernetSettings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3
These are the keys it previously keeps finding:
Altnet - (This is the one it can't delete)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altnet
DSO Exploit-(These come up every scan, deletes them, next scan they are back)
Data source object exploit
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Inter netSettings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Inter netSettings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Inter netSettings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3
HKEY_USERS\default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\InternetSettings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3
If I run the same programs again, they pick up the same thing, I re-delete to no avail.
I sent a fax/e-mail to Altnet and a couple days later, I had a virus which dis-associated all of my exe files and corrupted Norton Internet Security, Spybot, Spy Sweeper, and Ad-Aware.
Please tell me how to get rid of this "SPY"?
Thank you
Pete

Reboot
Download PV.zip . Once downloaded, unzip it. Double click the pv folder and inside double click the runme.bat file.
Once the program has intialized, and the menu appeared, hit the 1 key and then hit enter. The program will open a file called "log". The log file will be located in the pv folder. Return to D-A-L. Come to this thread and click button. Under the reply box, click Manage Attachments. Click the Browse button and locate the log file, click Upload and then once the file has uploaded, click Close Window. Type your reply in the box and click Submit Reply. Hi Owen,

F.Y.I., also have another problem posted under Windows XP Issues that in some way may be related. It is under "Strange Dialog box appears when logging off user".
I don't know if you get involved with these issues, but I just wanted to give you a heads up, just in case they are related.
Thanks
Peter Have you tried manually deleting the AltNet entry in the Registry?
Go to Start> Run and type regedit . Click Ok.
On the left, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altnet . Right click Altnet and select delete.
How does that go? Hi Owen,
I have tried that and get an error:
"Cannot delete Altnet: Error while deleting key"
I have also tried in safe mode and get the same error.
I also did a registry search for Altnet and Dashboard.
I was able to delete all but one.
Do you know what software loads Altnet and Dashboard? This way I can make sure I am not using any of them? That may be why it won't delete.
I ran another HJT Scan and the three BHO (no name) files were back. I deleted them again, and ran it a few more times and they didn't show up again.
I'll watch it and keep you posted.
Thanks again for your help.
Peter Try this: Right click the registry key of the offending key (Altnet) then
select "Permissions". In the "Advance Tab", select your User Account name
then check the box to replace owner. Click OK. Next, in the "Security"
tab, select your User Account name then select the box for full control.
Click OK. Try deleting the offending keys now and it should be gone.
Note: Prior doing the above, please back-up your registry.
