    Major Problem: 'Windows Cannot Open file' message! Hijackthis Inside

    here my hijackthis log. Ive been trying so many different things and confusing the hell out of myself. All of my icons have changed to the generic icon image and i recieve the error message "windows cannot open this file" and am told to choose what i would like to open it with. I started in Command Prompt mode and copied regedit.exe to regedit.com and have access to my registry now.

    Ive also tried to import certain .reg files that ive seen around that are said to help: xp_exe_fix.reg, xp_fileassoc, winxp_exe_fix.reg, all to no avail. A tried a couple system restores from various dates but it looks like w/e happened affected that too because it changed nothing. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    to give some extra info, ive tried dl'ing a few of the reg fixes and importing them into my registry. A couple of them worked but only for5-10 minutes. For some reason I still have access to certain programs like msn, internet explorer, and a few others, but other than that, everything is not working.

    On my computer i have Ad-Aware and Norton's Anti-Virus but cannot access either do to the problem opening programs. I worked on this damn thing for about 12 hours yesterdar, scouring the web for any help with no luck...

    ive searched and found people with this problem before but none of their solutions worked for me. Im desperate, i need this computer for school and as of now its all but useless to me. if anyone could check out my hijack this and get me started id appreciate it sooo soo much. thanx guys and sorry for being so impatient, im just flipping out over this thing.

    Close all browser windows, restart Hijack This and put a checkmark next to the following entries:

    O9 - Extra button: MktBrowser - {17A27031-71FC-11d4-815C-005004D0F1FA} - C:\Program Files\MarketBrowser\lmt\MarketBrowser_Launch.xpy

    Click Fix Checked

    Then boot into Safe Mode and ensure that you are showing Hidden Files and Folders.

    Delete the following files and folders:
    C:\Program Files\MarketBrowser

    Reboot and post a fresh log

    thanx for the response but i have a problem following those directions. None of my programs are working so i cant access hijack this. I get the same error message: "windows cannot open file.." and all that. Is there anything i can do to get around this?
