The computer's been acting slow of late. I've upgraded the latest programs and yet, something doesn't seem quite right. Thanks in advance for your help. Here's my Hijack This log:

As for spyware I see nothing, I think the running slow is jsut due to the fact that you have many applications running and being started on boot. You might want to update hijackthis to the latest version, it reports a few more things such as some non default services running. But you should try to disable programs you dont need. For example the quick time quicklaunch is pointless... when you install quick time player is is forced upon your computer. Other things like the Nero cd checker and the InCD are not needed, I doubt you are constantly burning CDs so you dont need to have the software prepped to go constantly.
Also, I notice you have a lot of HP software running. Things like drivers for specialty keyboards, I myself never use those spare buttons, but you might. So if you arent using them then that is another pointless program that you can clean out. Just halting a few programs can make a considerable change in ram useage.
edit: I just noticed running process wualct.exe. This is a possible threat, a trojan/keylogged, W32.Cult Trojan. Im not familiar with this trojan so I cant give you any information.

Thanks for your quick and helpful reply Leafo, I really appreciate it.
Since I'm kinda stupid, can you give me a moment to tell me how to shut those programs down without uninstalling them? When I hit ctrl+alt+delete, I don't see these things running. Thanks a lot.

What you could do is stop the programs from starting on boot. There are many ways to do this, but I see you have spybot so you could use that. Under the tools tab there is a system startup section. In there you can disableprograms from starting on boot, or even delete their record completely. You could also edit the registry directly, use msconfig, or an assortment of 3rd party applications.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe is a valid file relating to Windows Update. See here.
Yes that log is certainly clean.
Or even you could check the applications in your log, so in this entry:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BackupNotify] c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\backupnotify.exe
You'd use backupnotify.exe. Go to www.sysinfo.org and enter this information (the .exe file at the end) and it will tell you what its for. If you don't need it, fix it in Hijack This.

Thanks Leafo and Owen,
I'm going to act on your suggestions and learn a little more about my computer.
Thanks again for the peace of mind. I think it's safe to say this issue is solved.

It is useful to know what you actually do have running, whats its for and whether you need it.
All I have in startup, is Antispyware, Antivirus, Firewall, MSN Messenger and Nvidia Graphic Card drivers, thats all I need and want. Thats sometimes the problem with systems you buy from HP or Compaq or other suppliers, usually bundle a load of applications that run at startup without your choice and hog system resources.
-
Thanks for your help Owen.
I'm going to heed your advice and trim the startup files to those you mentioned. Things ought to be fine now.
Thanks so much for your time and help.
