Trojan downloader hiding very well
Greetings!
I found this forum on google as a place where i might be able to get a little help for a really annoying problem...it seems that i have picked up a trojan downloader from somewhere (will be talking to the 15 year old when she gets home about her downloading habits) and i can't get rid of it...AVG found it but didn't remove it...i went to the place where it said it was hiding on my computer and what do you know?? It's not there...nor can i find it anywhere else on this stupid machine...this computer is about 4 inches away from being shown how to fly out the back window of my room...SO, how the heck can i get rid of it? I have run Ad-Aware, SpyBot, SpySweeper, AVG and even went to the Trendmicro Housecall site and i still have this thing on my computer...AVG tells me it's called Trojan Horse Downloader VB.3.BA...help, anyone?

Hi there...
AVG said it was in "c:\windows\local settings\temporary internet files\content.IE5\49a7whe8\budicon[1].cab:\mm20.ocx"...but no such file seems to exist anywhere on my computer in any form...my fiancee wants to try something (i just hope he didn't see it on a cartoon once!), so if that works i'll let ya know and if not well...the computer may be taking a flying lesson out the window and i won't be able to let you know...

What operating system are you running?
Have you tried using the search utility to find it? start menu/search
Try downloading spybot and adaware and using them to scan your harddisk as an ocx is normally adware.

Rowena....
Can you please follow the instructions in THIS thread on how to post a HijackThis log.
Be sure to download and scan with Ad-Aware and Spybot first.
In the mean time....
Clean out temporary files:
* Go to Start | Run | type cleanmgr | OK
* Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the ONLY things checked.
* Let it scan your system for files to remove.
* Press OK to remove them.
