    Unhappy Yahoo Mail problems

    Dear Friends,
I have a yahoo account that I only use on occasion. For the last week, my usual password for it has not been working. I have tried troubleshooting (can't login button) on yahoo, but I need to know the answer to my secret question, which is "what is one plus one?" - I have tried multiple replies, but none of these has worked. I have even contacted Yahoo help with an alternate e-mail address; and have been corresponding with them on how to deal with the problem. The bottom line of their answer is that I must know my account info, or else they cannot help me. They also have offered to try a bunch of alternate replies to "what is one plus one?", so that I do not have to do it myself. I was reluctant to list possible replies for them, but finally have done so, since I am interested in saving my account.
The only other possibility I cannot deny is that I was perhaps directed to change my password at some time in the last couple of months; in which case I simply added some § to my password -- but I do not know in which order this was.
Stealth-login to my own account is probably beyond the scope of this help forum, but in case someone has suggestions (including how to rediscover the answer to "what is one plus one?"), I would be glad to read them.

    Thank you for reading this,
    Janelle
PS Should I have posted this in the "internet security" section?

When I go through the process of resetting the ID there is a prompt for the ID with a box of letters to type in on the first page (after you select the option of telling them what happened). If you can't read that you can do the audio prompt. That is to keep bots from making these requests; I didn't see anything about 1+1. The next page is the secret question page. You would have been prompted to answer questions when you signed up that only you would know the answer to. If you don't know that and you don't have your yahoo account linked to another email account then you're screwed. Those steps are for your protection to keep unauthorized people from accessing your account. Unfortunately we can't help you bypass security settings and yahoo isn't going to help you either. Take this as a valuable lesson to safely store your passwords and security questions where you can access them if need be. There are many password vaults or you can do what I do and store them in a password protected excel spreadsheet. I wish I could help you further but to do so would be against our terms of service. Not to mention give someone else info on how to crack yours or anyone's account info.

As an additional thought, if you can't answer the security question and you don't know the password the only thing I could see possibly working would be to hire a lawyer and follow his advice on how to prove yourself to yahoo through the courts although I don't know how or even if that would work in your country. That would of course cost money but it would be legal; you'd have to consider if that would be worth it. Hacking or having someone hack for you would not. Also consider that having a ridiculously easy to answer security question would make it easier for someone else to hijack your account. Perhaps, if you can't get in it, someone else already has.
