Hi all & thanx for the opportunity to ask this question. I know almost nothing about computers BUT I have a desk-top & lap-top both HP desk-top downstairs hooked up to ATT DSL. My question is can I use my lap-top upstairs & connect to the net using some kind of splitter or??? without spending a fortune

    Welcome to D-A-L

You do not say what OS you are running on your systems.

Please read the link in my signature and post the relevant information for quick and concise assistance.

In the meantime depending on which OS you are using How to set up a Home Network I have a home network setup and can share between the two systems, Laptop and PC.....it all works so well.

    Post back with added information.

    kind regards,

Thanx for the reply. You are talkin to a real dummy, I had to find someone that could tell me what OS means! That said, on the laptop I have windows 7 & the desktop windows vista business. I want this as simple as possible, I only want to be able to access the internet on the laptop, I don't need the two computers to interact I want to split the incoming line. I'm thinkin kinda like a cable splitter, Is there such a splitter???

I am not running Windows 7 and am not able to find when researching google a simple enough step by step to assist you connecting your Laptop to the internet using Windows 7 other than the sharing information posted in my first reply to you..

Other volunteers with more experience in this field will come by to assist you I am sure.

    kind regards,

Edit: Digerati has answered your query in this thread. It is always better to stay with the one thread to avoid confusion....... Never mind this time you have the most knowledgable volunteer looking after you.
