I have an idea.
I noticed on the main page of DAL that the server is starting to give out because of too many members. Why dont you delete some of the accounts(if that would help). Maybe ones that havent been logged in in 2 years
Just a thought...

The mention of members is simply to highlight the increased demand of the site which originally only had a handful of members. The inactive members put very little strain on the D-A-L webserver and will take up only a tiny tiny bit of disc space on the server.
The reason the server is struggling is with the high bandwidth usage to active members and the many guests who visit the site for information without registering as a result of search engine searches. And of course, as the server deals with more and more users, higher amounts of RAM and a more powerful processor are necessary, as well as of course the connectivity side

Yep spot on, with over 8,000 daily visitors it puts quite a strain on the server and thats where you need more processing power as Owen said.

Wow! I had no idea that it was only a little bit of space that was used for members. What about in the future? Surely as more people join, and some people leave their accounts, we will have this problem again... maybe bigger...
Next year, there will probably be a similar thread to this but by someone else
We all worry... as nature intended

Oh i see..
Well thank for answering that for me!

If you think about it k_9, members who are inactive generally only have posted a small number of posts. Copy the text from the posts into a .txt file, save it and you'll see how very little space it takes up (1 byte per character). Then the user details again take up only a small amount of space. I think the forum does archive really old posts as well.
I'll the save the URL of this thread so that when the question pops up next year as you predict, I can quickly put them at ease and allow them to understand
