Standby or switch off?
I'm curious to know what the pros and cons are off switching my home comp off altogether as opposed to putting it to standby.
On the weekend I use standby because I'll be doing one thing or another and then leaving it a while to do non-computer stuff. Should I do the same Monday to Friday? Generally I'll spend 60-90 minutes on it before work and again after.

It takes less than 2.5 minutes for my computer to reboot from cold and have my home page opened. Unless I know I am going to be on it again in less than an hour, I turn it off. I do not see any need to unnecessary jack up my electric bill and put undo presure on the electic grid. On the other hand, tuning things on and off put more stress on the device as appose to having it run on its steady state situation

doesnt give a clearcut answer though. lol.

From my research over many years there is no clearcut answer.
For everyone that says leave it on for the computers sake there is another thats says not.
I think it boils down to the electric load for us all.
I admire the Australian initiative to cut down on power usage!
With my new 1000W system I only turn it on when I am using it.
With my 350W I will leave it run if I go out but not overnight etc.

I expect to be installing a graphics card over the Easter break. There won't be much downtime after that.

I leave mine on all day as I'm on and off it unless I'll be out for hours. I turn it off at night, dont see the point while everyone is asleep.

i turn mine off everytime i finish with it

i turn mine off every week or so. longest i had it running was one month. mainly cause i download alot, and the Malaysia connection is horrendously slow. 3GB would take 1 week minimum, 2 months average. so it's on most of the time.
lol.
