I'm new to DAL and I understand the advice I'm seeking is probably as old as the hills, but in light of the Vista release I feel this advice is worth asking for again.

I want to buy a new laptop computer, and would like peoples recommendations as to the specification I should go for. Now I now the usual reply is "it depends what you want do with it", but really in my case, although I haven't got a bottomless wallet, I am prepared to spend a bit more than I really need to so as to 'future proof' my new machine.

I'm not a gamer, I think the most demanding thing I will ever do with my machine is photo editing. (I know some may say 'go for an Apple for that', but for other things I do I would prefer to be conventional and stick with a PC with the new Vista OS)
