    Which camcorder should I get?

    Hi guys

Santa's bringing me a camcorder.... only I don't know ANYTHING about them, what sort of features I might like, which brand, how many pixels, DVD vs hard drives.... it's all a bit of a mystery to me.... so I thought I'd put it out to the community!

Anyone have any advice they would like to give or tips they'd like to share?

I'm not too clever when it comes to gadgetry so I'd be looking for something fairly simple in operation and all I really want it for is to capture my 6-year old son and the antics he gets up to.

I look forward to reading your comments!

    Thanks
    Janey

A great idea for a gift and with the relatively cheap editing software around these days you can really get creative!

Your choice really does however, as most things, come down to your budget. If your not too into gadgets then you may want to go down the route of a camcorder which supports DVD's. This allows you to record directly onto a DVD disc rather than messing around with Tapes.

Do you want to be able to edit the video footage afterwards?

DVD seemed like quite a good "starter" option to me too. Maybe if I got into this whole filming game I could then upgrade to a hard drive and a s****ier model at a later stage? (next Christmas??)

As for editing video footage afterwards... I guess that would be a handy feature (to possibly edit a 5 min boring section of him messing around in the garden to a 2 min interesting section of him doing stuff).. but is this going to get a little complex for a bear of little brain such as myself?

Budget - I have no idea - this is a present from my parents but I can add to the budget if I need to. Give me an idea of price as I've seen camcorders from £50 right up to a couple of grand - eek!

    Hey,

Sorry for the delay! Well I would think you could get something to do the job for the £350-£400 which is going to be good quality. I always go for Sony but that's just my opinion, you can see their cameras avaialble here http://www.sonystyle.co.uk

Once you have the footage off the camera Video Studio is a great package to perform simple edits, add music etc http://www.ulead.co.uk
