    Re: Rising RAM prices?

2 box as in.. the green bar fluctuating graph thingy? lol. sorry i'm not good at explaining cause unsure what's that. cant seem to upload the screenshot... even though the resolution and all is just right.

i'll upload one later, gotta go school.

Task Manager > Performance > i only see, 3 graphs, CPU Usage History x2, Page File Usage History 1 graph, and below that Totals, Physical Memory, Kernel Memory and Commit Charge.

Wow. I have Dual Channel running in another computer (not this one) and you should only get one of those... BUT that depends on your CPU.

It seems you have a Dual Core processor...right?

Here's what you see in single cores (attached)

yeah i've thought it's possible i've got a Dual Core Processor... but that doesnt seem possible as i did not buy that. but i cant find the box either. and this motherboard shouldn't be able to support Dual Core processors either.

i did a Belarc Scan... and it didnt specify what processor type am i using.

i've thrown away my Motherboard box as well, which now proves to be a bad idea. erm... can someone help me check if the Intel D101GGC motherboard supports Dual Core?

i still don't really think it's possible though. lol. unless they did a mix up when me and my friend bought the parts together.

oh yeah, another thing, how come my max memory is 512, yet it doesnt show the bar being close to full? when i'm close to using full? so in short my computer freezing issue is also related to the ram correct? too little ram?

    Your mobo: http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/rese...ture/index.htm

The Intel® Desktop Board D101GGC Essential Series is a value board that provides stable support for the Intel® Pentium® D, Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor and the Intel® Celeron® D Processor in the LGA775 package in a MicroATX form factor with flexible integrated graphics.
Based on the ATI Radeon* Xpress 200 chipset, this board features a 800/533 MHz system bus, two DIMM sockets designed to support DDR 400/333 memory, one PCI Express* x1 connector, one PCI Express* x16 connector, and 10/100 LAN connectivity.
That doesn't support Dual Core. So I'm not sure why that reading is.

Have you ran sfc /scannow from Start>Run with the XP CD inside yet?

Do that if you haven't. The freeze issue is your RAM for certain. I'd expect it not to move at all with that much usage with hardly anything free left. The rest thats showing as not fully used up is Virtual Memory created on your HDD when space is too short on the RAM. When there's no space left on the RAM which is "dynamic" and "random access memory" unlike the HDD, the files that are not currently being used in your RAM are swapped over to the HDD under Virtual Memory, which is very slow (no where near your RAM speed) and when later they are needed, are swapped back over to the RAM first and then to the CPU making it a very slow procedure as you experience.
The computer also compresses and adjusts to only use RAM depending on the amount you have available.
Hence if I had 200MB usage with the same applications at the system start with 512MB, increasing to 1GB will possibly show them to be a little more spaced out and larger at 240-280MB or so. With yours, I suspect you're running apps that are too demanding and powerful for the RAM you have in. If you upgrade they will probably not be 500MB usage but 600-700MB usage instead.

my average RAM usage is shown as 380-400+. i guess that really means my computer IS suffocating. the Dual Core bar thingy is unusual though... as i've reformatted my computer once, and even back then this was what i got.

i always thought it was because i had 2 rams running on dual channel or something. omg...?

oh yeah, is it possible it's HyperThreading? a friend of mine said that could be the reason. how does hyper threading works? when i'm running 2 same frequency/speed Rams?

Damn I totally forgot about you having Hyper Threading

I have it turned off usually because I overlock.
Yes, showing as two processors IS Hyper Threading. Hyper Threading is much quicker, around 30% quicker as claimed by Intel than any other same speed Intel Pentium 4 processor. Quicker response time etc.

    More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading

wow. 15-30% better? however intel's quite known to talk big. lol. i read the wikipedia and it says all it needs is the processor to support it? meaning... there's no special requirements to run HT?

anyways you've answered every RAM question i have right now. thanks man! you seriously rock

    getting a DDR400 later i hope. hehe.

Yes you're right about the HT. You're very welcome BTW
