New Problem is !!!!!!!

My friend has a new Dell laptop and is trying to set up the internet connection via Tiscali. HOWEVER although wired correctly her modem light flashes constantly and will not connect. Have tried all options on tiscali help . She checked that it is not the phone line as it does not connect on my phone line which she is using for this email. The modem is a speed touch modem, the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1300. She has being trying to connect to Tiscali broadband for one week with no success

Any help would be appreciated apart from the suggestion of throwing the whole thing through the window, or contacting tiscali as they do not reply. Have to say it has come close to being thrown through the window several times

have you checked to see the connection details are correct, the number that should be showing is "0, 30" wired i know but thats the number i have to connect to for broadband.

your friend is lucky to have a speedtouch they gave me a Sagem modem, which was prone to overheating... needless to say i got my own wireless modem.

in regards to tiscali help line... atrocious i know... but they did solve my connection problem when we told them to shove their connection up the place the sun doesnt shine and i have had no problems since...

Thanks for your very quick reply Do you mean the number that is used to dial out. I somehow don't think so. As you have proberly gathered you are speaking to the computer illiterate. Where should the number you wrote go. Sorry to sound so daft

It might end up with telling tiscali to stick it in the place you suggested

sorry i didnt reply last night, i had to check something. you can check the number by clicking start - conect to - highlight tiscali broadband and right click it. go to properties and on that screen the number should be shown,

and the correct number 0,38

thats one of the things i had to double check
