    Broadband and Talk Talk

I currently have my Broadband connection with Supanet (www.supanet.com). It cost me just over £19.00 a month so I decided to switch to Talk Talk, taking up there telephone and Broadband offer which cost me around £19 a month.. The phone call saving means I stand to save £50 to £60 per month.

My phone is already connected to Talk Talk and I have seen immediate savings.

I have been on a waiting list for Broadband but now they are ready to connect and have asked me to obtain my MAC number from Supanet so they can implement the changeover. Supanet tell me it is company policy not to give out the MAC number (have contacted OFCOM who say this is not compulsory at the moment but they are introducing legislation to make it so in about a months time).

I rang Talk Talk to tell them about the problem and they said I should just close my account with Supanet and then they could provide me with their service fourteen days later. I told them this was not acceptable as my business was run through the internet and I could not afford to be down for fourteen days. Talk Talk then tell me that it wouldn’t make any difference anyway as even with the MAC number there is a fourteen day cooling off period so I could not switch from one to the other without a break. When I signed up to Talk Talk I specifically asked this sort of question when I was at the Carphone Warehouse as it was an important consideration before signing the agreement.

Why should they even bother about the MAC number if it makes no difference to connection time?

Has anyone else come across this problem or got any thoughts on the matter?

when we wer going to switch from aol, they said it would take either 7 or 14 days (sorry, cant remember which one) with the MAC code and double that without (7 or 14 days to cancel one and 7-14 days activating the other)

That thread was interesting in that I am not alone.

I rang OFCOM last week and they said they hoped to have legislation in place during October to make it compulsory to give out the MAC number. They told me to ring back at the end of the month to find out what the position was with reagards to the legislation coming in.

What makes the whole situation worse is that I am having Broadband connection problesm at the moment which make it very difficult to work online.
