    system maintenance is a nightmare

I find system maintenance is hell of a work. Some programs needs weekly updates, some monthly and some needs to be scheduled to run daily .. its really lot of work
Do you guys agree with me ? How do you people handle this ?

I feel everyone has to keep their system upto date, else you might be a spamming computer.
Not just Windows updates, you need to schedule virus defs updation, firewal, spyware, and any software you have on your system. Also programs like diskcleanup, defrag got to be scheduled to keey your system clean.

Also anyone using pre-XP versions of Windows needs to grab all the updates NOW before Micro$oft withdraw support on July 11th.

Updating can be a bit of a pain, but what would you rather have, a nice, clean system or a virus-ridden, spyware-laden one that broadcasts your banking and credit card details to thieves (why else would they want to STEAL information?) and possibly bombards all your friends with viruses?

I update my anti-virus every day, spyware removers about once a week and Windows updates when I think of it (slapped wrists), which SHOULD be every week or two. It's not too much of an inconvenience when you think of the damage that could be done.

Speaking as a 100% technotard, I can say this much with regard to keeping your computer clean: the first week I was online I got hit by the internet bandits and as a result copped a $450 phone bill. After that I installed Black Ice PC Protection from ISS and Spybot S&D and McAfee anitvirus. No major problems since.
Updates are like taking your car to the mechanic for service and tune, but generally cheaper and in my experience you're more likely to be dealing with someone who knows what they're doing!

Thanks for all the replies. But my actual issue is about scheduling all these task. And over this we got to check for it successful completion, these task are pain in the neck. I guess you people feel the same.

Not having much time nowadays, I'm not on line at the same time each day, so I prefer to do it manually. It's not too much of a pain, especially now AVG updates so quickly. Not long ago the update files were about 3MB, which took about 20 minutes to download on a dial-up connection. Now it's probably less than a minute.

AVG every day. Ad-Aware, Spybot and Spyware Blaster every week or so. That's not too much to keep my system clean and safe.
