We plan on moving in the next few months and the one thing that we are going to try is "not" to hook up the computer. The reason? It rarely works the way it's supposed to. Just like tonight Yahoo was going through yet another fit. Tried to check my mail and was told it can't find the remote server. Usually when it tries to load up a page and the page has 25 images it will only go up to 24 images and then it freezes. Have tried to buy and sell a few things on Ebay and after the first week we just said the heck with it. And when I have problems I will make the foolish mistake of trying to find the problem and will go to my ISP and of course it's not "there" fault, problem must be my computer. So that's the little game that a person must play. I find the whole PC very, very, confusing. Why oh why will the computer work perfect one night and the next night it will be the exact opposite? I have Adobe Acrobat and 1 night about a week ago when I want to use it when I would click on it it loads up Music Match. Why? The heck if I know. Fact is for me the computer has never worked the way it's suppose to. Most of it is hype. Why should I have to double click this, drag this, left click this and whatever else one should to just to fix one of the numerous problems that it has? Fact is a computer is not that reliable and it seems the only fix is to junk your computer every 2 years and buy a new. Was told to increase my memory to make it run faster. I doubled my memory and yes it was faster for maybe 2 days then back to the slow speeds again. Added an external HD thinking that would help. You should know the answer to that. It's just pretty bad that all a person want's to do is surf the net and send a few emails but your computer can't even handle that task. My computer is a 1.7ghz Dell with 512 memory. But I guess it's an antique, after all it's over 2 years old. I'm frustrated because the computer in all it's hype is a nice thing to have when it works. But it rarely does. Have had a computer for 9 years now and the fact is there over hyped. I ask any of you to please tell me i'm in the minority when it comes to computer's not working the way there supposed to. If anyone out there has not had any trouble with there computer I sure would like to know what there secret is. Sorry,I needed to vent. Gee maybe the answer is to go out and buy another $50 worth of software to "fix" my problems. Trouble is by tommorow night there will be another set of problems. I'm going to quit now. I'm going to try and check my e-mail on Yahoo again. Wish me luck.....(By the way thank you for letting me vent-It is appreciated.)
my nan had a computer for 8 years (was win 98) with no big problems and that was a dell, few little ones like slowing down and freezing after about 7 years.....
we had a computer for 6/7 years (win 95) with no problems at all, this was a custom made one we got rid of it because nothing was compatible with it, it was all going to win 98+
i have had my dell for bout 2/3 years (win xp) with countless problems (usualy aol/aol related) and quite a few blue screens, ive trippled my memory from 256mb to 768mb, added a new dvd-rw and an extra hard drive (which broke a few months ago)
it seems the newer computers are less reliable... mine has been ok the last month or 2 (touch wood)
just windows live messenger BETA never signs in, and when it does it says this program has encountered a problem and needs to close!! sometimes i am lucky and get on but hardly ever... ive gone back to 7.5, im gunna try again in a few weeks

When I first got a pc I was having to re-format every few months because it was full of viruses, trojans and browser hijacks. In those days most people didn't know about firewalls and anti virus, me included.
I have had this present pc a couple of years and have installed more ram a few weeks ago. It behaves much better now.
The main trouble I have is when doing anything with graphics like editing photos etc.. it freezes the pc and I have to reboot.
I have found that the windows updates cause a lot of problems for me. I delay installing them for as long as possible as they always cause explorer exe to not respond.
I think all computers are temperamental, you only have to look in any office or library to see the amount of them with out of order notices on them.
I get a lot of satisfaction out of fixing mine myself and couldn't live without it.![]()
That is true, in our school, there is not one room with at least 1 computer not working or not connected to the school networkOriginally Posted by Jaynee
