    what Broadband?

Hey, as many of you know I’m moving house in August to Cambridgeshire, we currently use NLT broadband (its 2meg I think) but where were moving to we cant get NLT so my parents have decided to go for a BT phone line.

Since I use the pc most, and my mum and dads computer knowledge goes about as far as turning it on, I’m sorting out the broadband. The obvious choice seems to be, BT phone line, go with BT broadband, but this whole “download limit" doesn’t sound too good, as I currently have no download limit, and don’t really want to be downloading a song, film, game, or checking my emails and run out of monthly allowance...

First question, this whole monthly allowance thing… if I run out of it, does that mean I can’t download anything else at all that month? Cant play any more online games? And can’t surf the web? (Unless I pay £1 97 per gig over monthly limit)

Also which one of their packages would you recommend, the best on our budget seems to be the BT broadband at £22.99 a month ( which goes up to £24 00 a month after a while) which is 2meg with 15gb of monthly allowance

Finally are there any better ISP’s you’d recommend that are about the £25 a month price bracket which are better than BT

    Thanx

I totally agree with Madmikejt12 - sign up to whatever you like as long as it's not AOL! I've been advised by several colleagues (and had already had the same advice elsewhere) that Pipex is a very reliable service and they are backed up by excellent technical support. They consistently win awards year after year for providing the best service but not many people have heard of them as they mainly provide business services rather than focusing most of their efforts on home users like AOL. You have to pay a little extra for Pipex than some of the 'cut price' or 'bundle' deals that are doing the rounds but at least you know it will always work consistently. Also look into Bulldog - a company that is currently supplying certain areas with very large connection speeds (e.g. 8Mb) at low prices.

(Of course, I know that you've already moved and have got your new BT service ordered but I thought I'd write this as a reference for others anyway!)

I use freedom2surf, they are brilliant. I am in the process of moving house and are staying with them. I have never had a problem at all in nearly 2 years and their customer service is brilliant. There is also a good forum which is handy if the helpline is closed. I use the uncapped service which I pay £22.50, I think it's £24.50 for new users.
The ISP review site gives information about all ISPs.

They just cut off my internet connection as I had an outstanding invoice. I had had a new visa card and forgot to tell them so they couldn't take the money. They had sent emails warning me. <memo to self> always check emails </memo to self> It came up on the screen that my account has been frozen and to reactivate it to log into the members area and pay. I thought that was amazing how I couldn't access any other sites but it would let me access theirs.
Anyway I changed my CC details and was back online within the hour.

No it wasn't their fault I didn't read my emails. If/when things do go wrong I will be the first to moan.
