HELP: pc games, video cards, and monitors...oh my!

ok i got a question. those of you that are gamers will probably know the answer right away. I hardly ever deal with pc games, monitors, or video cards, i just don't care for them that much.

anyways my brother has a radeon 9550 card in his computer, 512mb ram, 1800+amd. monitor is brand new, so is the video card, main board.

so he installs his halo\americas army\and one other one its newer but i can't think of the name games on the pc. It will play between 10minutes and half an hour and then ALL video from the monitor goes away and the monitor says the following
    "signal out of range
    hf: 30khz-70khz
    vf: 50hz-160hz
    84khz 162hz"

now this is only when he is playing the games listed above..IT DOES NOT DO THIS when he is playing starcraft on the machine. I've updated to the newest ati catylst driver, and changed his halo video settings (thats what I have him testing it on) to medium instead of high, and it still bombed out of after half an hour.

    other info
    hd tests fine
    ram tests fine
mainboard and cpu pass stress tests
    video card passes stress tests
    power supply is new
games still mess up with connected to a different monitor

this thing is driving me up the wall..any ideas????

I'm not into games, but graphics, and I do know that screen resolution is important.

This link may be all the help you need......until someone who is into games comes along...

    Hope that helps

    Hi,

With this card if you do not get it solved, might want to get rid of the Catalyst drivers and try the Omega drivers.

    Orphelia,
I did try that in a way. I changed the direct x refresh to 75hz. After doing so the machine would not play the game for more than 10 mins, when my brother tried 2 times. Once it just shut down without the message, the next time it froze and they gave the out of range message.

I'm gonna try to adjust down to 72 and try it. This is crap i think i'm gonna just try to rma the board and video card, theres no reason playing halo should be this hard to set up. I mean its nuts
