Project igi
I recently found my copy of project igi so thought i might give it a go as the pc i used to play it on was never really powerful enough to play it.
I have a prescott 2.8, 1 gig RAM, Radeon 9800 XT, 250 gig hd, Win XP Pro.
So this pc should be able to kill it.
I read a bit up on it and saw some people were having trouble playing it on XP and some had no problems.
After installing it. I applied a nocd patch and fired it up. It all loaded fine no problem. Intro played, title screen came up so i started a game.
The story bit started playing then right in the middle, the pc just turns off like a power cut.
I thought it might have been a something else that made it happen to tried it again.
This time i skipped the story bit and went straight into the game. After about 3 seconds of moving about. The same thing.
The pc didn't even reboot just turned off in an instant.
I've had old games crashing the pc's back to the desktop and error screens and even rebooting the pc but what kind of game error can instantly turn off a pc quicker then the power button like a power cut?

I don't know anything about that game but your CPU might be overheating. In some computers, like mine, if it reaches a certain temperature (75 C on mine) it shuts off just like you described however there are other possibilities. I suggest that you download and install Speedfan figure out what the CPU temp sensor is, and watch that. You can set it log your temps & when it shuts off check that later or what I suggest is that you install Prime95. While you run it (and I would run it for at least 30 minutes) watch your temps. If you hit or go over 70C I would shut the program off and to be on the safe side shut your computer off for a few minutes. Don't try to run your game at the same time as this program will max out your CPU. If your temps get really high you need to get a can of compressed air & clean out your computer, especially your fans and heat sink.
Now for clarity what do you mean buy a Prescott 2.8? Please say what the processor is (such as Pentium 4). Also what are the minimum & recommended systems specs for that game?

Thanks for reply.
I have a Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8
I will install speed fan and stuff to check the temp but when i built the pc i put in quite a powerful cpu fan which has a speed dial on the out side so i can turn it up and down.
The game is a very old game designed for windows 98 and minimum spec is only Pentium II 300 MHz
64 MB System RAM, direct x 7, 8m graphics card. Plus i was playing Splinter Cell, chaos theory the other day with no problems so am not sure how such an old game can cause my CPU to overheat and shut down if it is that.
