I put the DVD into the drive.
Click on LOAD GAME.
Then in a flash all is gone and returned to the DESKTOP with a FATAL ERROR message saying:-
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.
That's it.

I also tried to install by going to the SETUP.EXE file on the disk like it says in the manual, but, there seems not to be such a file. I looked in every folder on the disk.

At the moment I am playing DAWN of WAR - DARK CRUSADE with no problems.

Can someone help me please.

Were there any specific error codes that it stated? If not...

Go to Start> Run> type in "eventvwr"> choose the "Application side tab> Look for any red cross that corresponds with the time the installation crash occured> open it, copy and paste it.

No guarantees, but might be able to help more.

This is going to be a bit confusing. I apologise before I start.

Bearing in mind I am using VISTA HOME PREMIUM, and if you are not, things are leyed out differently, (I realise you probably know this).

"eventvwr" takes me to the "event viewer" as you know.
I have three columns. In the centre, the main viewing window, entitled "OVERVIEW and SUMMERY".
The left hand column, what they call the "CONSOL TREE" has 5 folders in it as shown:-

EVENT VIEWER.

CUSTOM VIEWS > Administrative events.

WINDOWS LOGS > Application - Security - Setup - System - Forward events.

If I click on the above "Application" it opens in the central viewing window, showing 5 columns headed as follows:-

LEVEL - DATE & TIME - SOURCE - EVENT ID
Information - 25/04/09 09:24:32 - Msilnstaller - 1033
- TASK CATEGORY
None

LEVEL - DATE & TIME - SOURCE - EVENT ID
Information - 25/04/09 09:24:32 - Msilnstaller - 11708
- TASK CATEGORY
None

Underneath this window are two tabs:- GENERAL and DETAILS.

GENERAL
Windows installer installed the product. Product name: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Gold edition. Product version:1.51. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.

GENERAL
Product: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Gold Edition -- Installation operation failed.

There are no red cross's.
If I am in the correct place, what do I have to COPY, and where do I need to PASTE it?

It seems like you're in the right place, but to be honest I'm not too familiar with the Vista system. Which could be why my instructions might have seemed weird to you. I'll grab my friend's vista lappie to poke a look at later on.

However, could you click the "Product: Warhammer 40k..... installation operation failed" event and double click it or something? If there's something that pops up then, click the "Copy to Clipboard" icon and paste the info here.

Just asking you to trial and error now. I'll get back to you after I get to touch my friend's laptop.
