I'm not very good at playing games so I use cheats.
At the moment I am playing, "Medal of Honor allied assault". When I looked up the cheat they tell you to edit the shortcut to the game by adding, "+set ui_console 1 +set cheats 1 +set thereisnomonkey 1" without the exclamation marks. When in the game press ~ which doesn't work, but I found ` works which displays the console window where you type the cheats.

My problem is when I type a cheat I get the following message:-
You must run the server with " +set cheats 1" (without the exclamation marks) to enable this command.

Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong.

Is it your server?

If not it would appear the owner set it for no cheats.

To be honest, I don't know what is ment by my own server.
I am running the game on my own personal PC in single player mode.

Sorry, from your error it sounded like a server/multi-player issue.

Now I would say you need to change this setting yourself:

+set cheats 1

Also I see it noted that versions 1.1 and above cannot be run with cheats. More in this Google:
