Graphics Card Advice
Hi i'm currently running a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (which runs Half Life 2,HellGate London and Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic ok with not much lag) which came with the computer that i brought and i'm looking to upgrade it to a PNY GeForce 7300GT 512MB AGP, Would this card run ok on my machine?
Here's a link to the mother board which i have ASRock Motherboard P4I65G
Since PC World is the only pc shop near me that's the only AGP card i can get and i'm not a big fan of ordering things online.

Welcome to DAL.
If the question is compatibility then yes that card will work on that board.
-
Ok thanks alot jephree

No problem. Let us know if we can help further.

Ok i got it today rather than yesterday,
The thing is, is that it's minimum required power supply is 400W system power supply and i've only got 350W
which would of helped if it told me what i needed on the website... Now my questions...
1. Would it be ok if it put it in my computer now while ignoring what the min req's are on the video card box and
if so would it damage my computer badly?
2. Or just wait until next month to buy this 400w power supply PC World - SWEEX 400W Power Supply (Dual Fan)
Then the other thing is, is that i won't be able to buy it until next month (24th Feb) because i owe all my money out.
Any help would be nice
EDIT: Here's a pic from my computer usage in Watts

So would the graphics card run with 222 Watts left?

Not a good idea to use a graphics card when your PSU can't supply it. That's a big risk over there. I've not tried it myself, but my friends that has tried that before have reported things from lagging computer during gameplay to downright not being able to start up.
Also I'm an ex-7300 user so feel free to ask me about its performance relative to games lol. I might be able to help.
-
I mainly asked that because of here Newegg.com - Radeon HD 2600XT.
On one of the comments someone said
"Also u dont need a 400 w PSU. IT is a common fallacy to think psu affects performance. In fact I seriously doubt that any of the so called "monster video cards "actually consume more than 150 w. If u dont believe me get a little program called local cooling. It has nothing to do with vcards analysis but it has a small feature were it tells u the power ur system is consuming. To your surprise the card was only spending 24 watts/hour my monitor 40w, cpu 65w, hard drives(3) 25w,ect. So the total power my pc was consuming was 165 w/hour, the equivalent of 2 light bulbs. If my psu unit is 300w maximum, u can clearly see i dont need a 400 psu or nothing alike. What it is important is the quality of the psu."
I know it isn't the same card but would that also apply for me?

Well... I've never attempted something like that, so I can't tell you from my experience. My friends had issues with it however, and when brought to technicians they were told it was because of the underpowered PSU. One particular friend of mine had a 9800 if I'm not mistaken, not too sure which specific model but whenever he plays games he would experience tremendous lag. Sometimes resulting in immediate screen blackout. He told me later that by changing the PSU power to a much higher one he has solved that problem.
I think my main concern with the quoted individual is that he never states during when does he record the PSU usage. If I'm not mistaken, the heavier your PC usage the more power it consumes. So if it's running idly it might consume much less.

I stuck it in my computer nevertheless and it's currently running smooth and i can finally play CoD4
on my computer and all my other games with max settings Doom3,HellGate London,Half life 2,Gmod 10 (157 max fps)
and some others.
This is a huge high point for me since i've been stuck with a 1.6ghz laptop with integrated graphics for the last 2 years.
Thanks for helping Kaistar and Jephree, I really appreciate it
