Game and sound problems
My Steam will no longer let me load games because it says hl2.exe has stopped working and gives the reason as sharerapidx9.dll as the fault module and I have done everything http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-...i=&p_topview=1
as suggested in that thread but the problem still persists. Also my sound card has been affected by this issue as well. Does anyone know how I can remedy this so I can get back to playing Portal?

Just to verify: you ran all the commands via:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm
Is this a new problem? If so you might try a System Restore as seen in next post.
-
You might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:
start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
-
Just noticed your HijackThis post.
Do nothing else until Neal tells you to or else runs out of ideas.
Then come back here.

Has already been helped as much as possible over in the spyware section. thanks.

Did you try my posts #2 & #3?
I was waiting for replies there.

Yes sorry I've tried system restore and did the WMI repair and the problem still exists.

So you ran through all the commands such as:
net stop winmgmt
pause
c:
cd c:\windows\system32\wbem
rd /S /Q repository
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\system32\scecli.dll
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%\system32\userenv.dll
mofcomp cimwin32.mof
mofcomp cimwin32.mfl
mofcomp rsop.mof
mofcomp rsop.mfl
for /f %%s in ('dir /b /s *.dll') do regsvr32 /s %%s
for /f %%s in ('dir /b *.mof') do mofcomp %%s
for /f %%s in ('dir /b *.mfl') do mofcomp %%s
mofcomp exwmi.mof
mofcomp -n:root\cimv2\applications\exchange wbemcons.mof
mofcomp -n:root\cimv2\applications\exchange smtpcons.mof
mofcomp exmgmt.mof
just create a .bat file and insert this code and then run it

?
More ideas here:

Some say just change your screen resolution.

Vista Home Users
* Go to: Start > Run and type in: cmd
* type in the following:
net localgroup Administrators /add Local service
* Restart your computer.
