    Question Help with CoD2

Well first off I new here, and I don't know much about computers =/ I just like game on them

Well I installed CoD2 and when I tried playing it I got this error-"DirectX Error DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please check DirectX Help document for possible details."

Here are the answers the help thing gave me-

"A. Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c installed and properly functioning on your machine.

    A. Please make sure that hardware acceleration is set to Full in your display properties as follows:
    1. Right click the desktop
    2. Select Properties
    3. Click the settings tab
    4. Click Advanced
    5. Click the Troubleshooting tab
    6. Verify that the Hardware Acceleration slider is set to Full.

    A. Make sure that all DirectX features under the Display Tab in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool are set to Enabled as follows:
    1. Click START
    2. Click RUN
    3. Type "dxdiag" and click OK
    4. Click the Display tab of the DirectX Diagnostic tool.
    5. Verify that all DirectX features are set to "Enabled".

    A. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed from your video card's manufacturer."
    --------
I checked the second and third answers and know those aren't the problem, but I don't know how to test my directX and I haven't made sure the latest drivers are installed.

(I'm thinking this has something to do with my vid card but I'm not sure.)

Have you played other games on this computer?

I ask because it only has onboard graphics as is. It is a good board chip but still limited. You do have a PCI_E slot available and if you are into high end gaming a PCI_E card would be a good upgrade.

That being said when you open dxdiag what version of DirectX do you have?

Also the tests are on the Display tab of dxdiag

What is the make and model of the computer?

-Yes I have played other games, but they were older games(2000-2001) so they never gave me problems.

    -It says I have 9.0c

    -I have a Dell optiplex GX280

There is a more recent driver for your graphics chip here:

    http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=168177

Also all drivers for your computer here:

    http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid=

I would try the latter driver and see if it makes a difference.

K I will, and also are you saying that I can buy a new vid card, and install it? (one of my friends said my current vid card was integrated and couldn't be upgraded)

Your current video is running off an integrated Intel chip. Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL.

But the specs on the computer indicate an available PCI_E x16 graphics slot.

Hence you can upgrade to a PCI_Ex16 graphics card.

I installed the driver but it still doesn't work so I'm guessing I need a new vid card.
