SB16 Emulation Problem w/ DOS Games
Hello,
I'm having a problem getting sound to work for a couple of old DOS games (WarCraft I and II).
When I run the install program for either game, the installation goes smoothly until I get to the sound setup. If I choose "Autodetect" it chooses the right card, and then I have to click to test the card. When I click to test the card, the setup program brings up a screen that says "unable to initialize the card you selected" and then the computer freezes completely. (The same thing happens if I try to manually enter the card settings instead of autodetect.)
Both of the games will open and run, so the problem is not with the game itself, just with the sound.
Only once did I get anything on screen beyond the "unable to initialize" screen, and the computer froze on this after displaying it:
"EMM386 has detected error #å0 in application at memory address 9600:E185. To minimize the chance of data loss, EMM386 has halted your computer.
For more information, consult your documentation.
To restart your computer, press ENTER."
I have the latest set of drivers from Creative's website, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the card and drivers twice. I also tried removing it and reinstalling it in a different PCI slot and still had the same problem. I also pulled a working SB0060 card from another computer and tested it, and it has the same problem so I know it's not the card. Device Manager in Windows shows SB16 Emulation as installed and working properly with no conflicts. As the computer boots up, it claims that the SB16 Emulation driver has loaded successfully just before the Windows desktop appears, but for some reason it's not working.
If anyone can give me any help on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
