Counter Strike Source not running as smooth as desired

Well got this problem, and I have tried oh so many things to solve it

Just bought CSS and I have got to say that it is indeed an awesome game really enjoy playing it. There is however one little thing that makes my joy fade a little and that is, when I am playing online I get minor lags far too often not like all the time but like 2-3 times a round. It is not like I cannot play CSS but it is just quite irritating and it certainly does not improve my gaming experience in fact it does worsen it.

So well I do hope that you understand that it is not about CSS being some laggy XXXX that I cannot play and stuff, it is just those minor lags that kind of freaks me out...

Well I have got this Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop.

    Specs
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5600 @ 1.83GHz
    L2 cache: 2.048 KB
    Mermory: 1.024 MB
    Mainboard: Dell Inc. 0XD720
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

Furthermore I get a FPS around 70 with 800x600 in that little test in CSS.

So what to do about it?

should be more than enough to run that game. have you checked your internet connection? perhaps you were downloading while playing? or you have some background applications using your bandwidth?

im not sure by i think my cousin has the same laptop (dell inspiron) and we also play CSS no lag, only if something is running in the background. i dont have much knowledge on laptops, but can the same laptop, lets say inspiron 6400, have different specs?

it's possible to have slightly different specs. some companies offer the user to upgrade or choose the packages so that it suits the user more.

sorry for the late reply lo2 but if you can run CSS fine under normal conditions it doesnt really make much sense to lag online.

however i forgot to ask if you're connected through a wireless connection? i've known some connections that has a short time out every once in awhile.

are you trying to connect to a server that's not in your country? Your ping may be too high, which may cause the lagging.

    Check your rates:

    rate 25000
    cl_Rate 9999
    cl_updaterate 101
    cl_cmdrate 101
    fps_max 101

You want to enter these into your console. Let me know if this helps.
