    Re: Want good game

steam sucks, i loved half life with the original WON network. I prefer standalone releases.

i like Garry's mod though. It's a sandbox with half-life 2 and Counter-Strike rag doll models, weapons and maps!

What exactly is Steam? I assumed they were the creators of these games (Half Life; Counter Strike; etc.)

I also see Valve mentioned. What is that? Are these the servers or what? What was WON?

And what exactly is a standalone release?

Thanks for the input by the way.

Valve's the company that's developing the game or something, but STEAM on the other hand is this online Server/Shop of sorts. people can connect through STEAM and play against others, or they can buy expansions or bonuses there as well.

that is what i know about it anyways. i didnt give HL2 a try cause it's crazy expensive in Msia back then.

a standalone release is a game with just an .exe file, you don't have to run it through the steam program manager. Most standalone releases are found on warez sites, but i make my own, cuz i'm not a pirate and i hate steam!

I just purchased a game called Alpha Prime. The graphics are nice, the game play is ok, but i've played better. Overall ill give it a 3 out of 5.

Hey Jeph, well there's a few great games out there right now... When you say you have a gaming system I guess you mean you have a PC that can run games (not a 360 etc.) out on PC right now a much have is Company of Heroes, possibly CoD 4, if you like shooters go for Unreal 3 and get yourself those Half Life expansions. The Orange Box is a great addition to your set if you like valve games, it's got 5 games in it for the price of one.

    Thanks for the input.

This thread was started over a year ago so I've played quite a few since then and yes it was/is a gaming PC I built just for gaming.

All my games are through Steam.

All the Half Life and Half Life 2 series are great. Portal is amazing. TF2 is a lot of fun.

Bioshock is also very pretty and interesting.

Also like Stalker Chernobyl and the Tomb Raider Anniversary.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is very good although very "glitchy".

I tried the Grand Theft Auto series but haven't really gotten into it.

I would like to try Crysis but it is not on Steam and I just am using that for games at the moment.

I saw the thread was rather old, but considering it had had a resurrection I figured I give you my two cents worth. If you really have a PC that can run crysis you owe it to yourself to at least try it... also you should buy carbon copies of games they update better and have much more actually value to them, though steam is handy (as is Direct2Drive if you're looking for Crysis) an actual disk is just worth so much more in the long run.

Just my 2 cents Lol. Guess who's back eh? hehe.

I've played Gears of War, and frankly it's pretty cool. I like the duck n cover system they use and the gory blood is just an added "WOOO!!"

Sins of a Solar Empire is a very interesting RTS as well. It takes a different approach to conventional RTS or 4X games. I highly recommend it to RTS lovers. However, start with a small universe as it may get REALLY long. A week so far is the longest I played.

Also, two very interesting game I got from STEAM is PuzzleQuest and Audiosurf. Audiosurf is... a racing-ish Guitar Hero-ish game. Pretty cool but may not be everyone's cup of tea. I like it cause it can play any song from my music library. Puzzle Quest is... RPG Bejeweled. Bejeweled with spells and equipments and the whole RPG "she-bang".

Hmm, as a side note I'm waiting to buy Dawn of War:Soulstorm *which is already out* and Assassin's Creed *which the pre-release is pirated but will be released soon*. Played Ass Creed on my friend's PS3 and it's like GTA meets Prince of Persia meets Hitman Silent Assassin.

Edit: Did I mention Clear Sky and Fallout 3 coming soon? Hehe.

    Welcome back Kaistar!

It is fun to see what everyone is playing.

TF2 was the first (and only) multi-player I've played.

I'm not very good with the keyboard and reaction time etc. so I am a bit shy about playing on-line.

But I find full servers and it is very addicting.

Like the mic talk and all that.

Anyway I will get to Crysis. I very much like the graphics "trip".

I am running two 8800GTX in SLI with a quad core CPU so it runs everything I've found so far.

Now a year later there is newer hardware. Thinking about the next build.
