When I run MapleStory, the problem "Failed in finding proper screen mode for Gr2D" will appear.
Is it a problem with my 'graphics card', or is it the 'video card driver'? (Sorry, I'm not sure of the differences) Because is there any way I can get help so that the problem can be fixed? If I were to purchase on my own, should I be buying a 'graphics card', or a 'video card driver'?
Also, wad is AGP or PCI? Are they different?
Please help me out. This problem has actually persisted for a long time, and I've not been playing since.
Thanks.
That error indicates that your graphics card is not adequate to run this game or else the drivers are not properly installed. The graphics card is the hardware; the drivers are the software. Drivers are free; hardware is not.
There are three types of graphics card slots: PCI; AGP; PCI_E
PCI is the oldest and slowest and basically obsolete for graphics cards.
AGP is next in line. Most boards have AGP. Here you need to know if your motherboard supports 8X or 4X or only 2X. PCI_E is the latest and greatest if your motherboard supports it. PCI_E runs at 16X. The higher this number the faster the card.
If you could previously play MS on this computer then you may just need new drivers.

Thanks for helping, Mod jephree.
Try clicking start then Run...
Then type dxdiag
Then click the Display tab and see what is listed under Device?
Mod jephree, sorrie but I may reply much less slower..My Internet connection at home is affected by the recent Taiwan earthquake...
As I'm not using my home computer, I'm unable to do what you've told me to. However, I will do it and post the results as soon as possible, okay?
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

As you can see your graphics card is not being detected by the computer.
Is this a custom built computer? Are you familiar with working inside computers? Do you know how to open the case?
This is a good post to read: http://www.d-a-l.com/articles/library/72.html
Then I would open the case and see if you have a graphics card installed. It would be mounted perpendicular to the motherboard. If you see such a card look at it for some ID.
That motherboard has an AGP 8X slot by the way.
This is bad..right?
Custom built meaning..? I bought the computer from a shop. Working inside computers..dont think I'm familiar with it..But I can try. So you mean I can fix the problem on my own? (With your help too)
Regarding the link, you mean that ESD could have been the culprit?
Because I was thinking, a few days ago, I downloaded something from the Internet - I was trying to fix this problem. However, just before the installation process, something popped up (from my comp, I guess). It warned me that the thing I was gonna install may not be suitable for my system (wasnt XP approved, something like that). It warned me that it would permanently damage my comp, and the damage would be irreversible.
I just installed anyway..Now I think I may regret it. Because when I tried System Restore, it wasnt able to restore to a previous date.
Could that something I installed made the problem worse..?
Erm, the motherboard is the CPU right?
The thing I installed was a display adapter (if I'm not mistaken) from
http://www.3dfxzone.it/index.php
Known as AmigaSport 3.0.
Here was wad popped up:
The software you are installing for this hardware:
Display adapters
has not passed the Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for the software that has passed Windows Logo testing.
Hope it's useful.
That software could very well have removed the necessary drivers for your graphics card.
Just to verify: Maple Story used to work on this computer? Is that correct?
You probably have either an ATI based card or nVidia.
Go to start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
Do you see any ATI or nVidia software listed? If so remove it then reinstall the drivers from the relevant web site:
nVidia:

ATI:
