    Crashing Constant

I have been playing World of warcraft for close to five months now, and over the last month and a half, have encountered major problems. During game play, almost every time, my computer will do on eof a few things:

-Computer will completely shut down and restart...with a "recovered from serious problem" message.

-Game will hang, screen will freeze and audio will stutter.

-Or the game will simply shut down with a game specific error.

These problems occur everytime I play, and very often, when i am logging off, or exiting the WOW program, (this when it happens, causes restart of system).

As you can guess, this is very frustrating, I have a Radeon 9950 which I installed prior to game installation. I have checked all my drivers and gotten updates. I have gone through the steps that ATI suggests for installing their drivers and now I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Turn off Auto Restart in order to get error messages:

Right click My Computer then click Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings

Unclick Automatically Restart under System Failure.

This should freeze your screen on an error message.

    Also:

Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for red X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Here are the items from event viewer that were marked with red "X".

Source: DCOM; Event:10010; Error Disc:The server {F3A614DC-ABE0-11D2-A441-00C04F795683} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    Source: System Error; Event:1003; Event Disc:Error code 0000004e, parameter1 00000007, parameter2 000045fd, parameter3 000148b8, parameter4 00000000.

Source: Service Control Manager; Event: 7016; Event Disc:The SmartLinkService service has reported an invalid current state 0.

Source: Service Control Manager; Event:7023; Event Disc:The IPSEC Services service terminated with the following error:
    The authentication service is unknown.

These are the errors that are recurring on a constant basis, and all that occured during one session on my computer. Again, thanks for any help you can offer.

Oh, also I shut off my auto-restart, and there was only a blue screen, no error message.

Is the problem only with this game?

Did this game ever work OK on this Graphics Card?

Any new hardware or software that might coincide with this problem starting?

Those errors are benign with the exception of the System Error 0000004e which indicates a memory problem. This could be your motherboard RAM or your Graphics Card RAM or it could be a driver.

You could also check your Page File settings:

To set Virtual Memory: Right click My Computer then click Properties > Advanced

Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change

With C: as the drive selected click System Manage Size then Set and OK your way out thru the windows.

You can also try the following:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

This is mainly just with the game, it has only happened once while ripping music from a cd into Itunes. Otherwise, its exclusively with the game.

At first, as i recall, the game worked fine. I haven't added any new hardware or programs recently. I did get a new monitor, but the problem exisited prior.

I will try the options you have given and see if that changes anything, thanks for the response...and keep me updated with any other ideas you may have.

I would suspect the software (WoW) at this point. Can you uninstall and reinstall this game?

Yes, I can uninstall and reinstall, I will try this, the other things you suggested did nothing to change the game play.

On a side not, my computer just told me that system32 was corrupt and that i was to run chkdsk, which i did, but it just ran a command prompt text file that did 3 step checking...it then shut off wth nothing. Is this how that is supposed to work...any thoughts on this? Argh!!

Yes. Check Disk runs on re-boot usually after a Blue Screen crash.

It runs through the three steps and fixes what it can find. It makes no report outside of you watching it run.

    Try running Check Disk:

    start Run... cmd

    Type:

    chkdsk /f

When asked if you want to run on next boot? Y or N?

    Type: Y

    And reboot,

This will check for and fix any hard disk errors.
