Framerate for games (and flash animations) dips and rises

    Hello again.

Thanks a lot for the help with the Sims 2 installation ^^. I do have another issue that has been pestering me for some time, and I will try to be as clear and thorough with it as possible.

Essentially this is what happens. When I am playing a computer game, or watching a flash animation, sometimes I hear an audio stutter, and the games framerate slows. It runs very smoothly before hand however. After awhile of it being slow, it will suddenly run smoothly again, before repeating the same process.

This, I've noticed, has happened after I tried to update my graphics card. Let me give you my system specs now. They are:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
    Memory: 510MB RAM
Page File: 457MB used, 819MB available
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    ---------------
    Display Devices
    ---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800
    Manufacturer: NVIDIA
    Chip type: GeForce Go 6800
    DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
    Display Memory: 256.0 MB
    Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)
    Monitor: Default Monitor

If that is too much info sorry for drowning you in the confusing mess, and if not enough, just tell me what else I should include.

So anyway, I was desperate to update my graphics card. I have an Nvidia GeForce Go 6800. I wanted to update the driver, so I uninstalled the old one, which made me panic a little, but then I found this site: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/, and I used one of their drivers compatible with my card. Apparently, or so far as I could tell, Nvidia does not release new drivers for this card. (I think because it is a beta? Or something. I am not sure.) But anyway, since I have used this site to update my driver, and I think I am up to date...

Well sorry for the somewhat long rant, but if anyone knows what could be happening with my computer, any suggestions on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Have you checked the setting via Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced > Monitor > Screen Refresh Rate

Also what is the exact make and model of your computer?

Did you try the manufacturer's site for drivers?

The GeForce Go series appears to be a laptop card that utilizes OEM drivers.

Yea, I checkd the refresh rate. It is at 60hertz. There is no option (that I know of or can find) to change that.

The exact make and model is:

    [1] Area-51m 7700

    Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 530J Desktop Processor w/ HT Technology 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB Cache
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2
    LCD Display: 17" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD Clearview Display
    Motherboard: Intel® 915P PCI-Express Chipset
    Memory: 512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 533MHz 2 x 256MB
    Video Card: Area-51m 7700 NVIDIA GeForce™ Go 6800 with 256MB of DDR3 memory
Hard Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 60GB 5400 RPM ATA100
    Primary CD ROM/DVD ROM: 24x10x24 CD-RW / 8X DVD Combo w/Software MPEG2 Decoder
    Sound Card: Intel® High-Definition Audio (24-bit, 192Khz) with 7.1 surround sound
(Sorry hope that has the info. ^^; )

I looked around NVidia's site for Drivers.. but not Alienware.com. I will check there now. And out of curiousity, What is an OEM driver?

    Yes I would check Alienware

You have to login for drivers.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) in this case Alienware.

They buy Nvidea chipsets and or cards but add their own drivers.
