I tried what it said but the game still doesn't work and my desktop icons just get rearranged
Were you able to reset the resolution and your desktop to normal?
I would guess that this game requires an independent graphics card.
The only other advise I can offer is to try contacting ActiVision.

THAT is your problem. I'm pretty sure your graphics card supports 3D Accelerator (b/c I have it too). Unfortunately, even if you do update your Intel graphics driver (845 Chipset - 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV), it DOES NOT support Transform and Lighting...
Here, Intel says that this chipset can't support it. Here.
Edit:
Since you can't change your graphics card (it's integrated), I suggest taking back the game and getting something that's compatible to your computer...
They also have a list of games that do work, in their website... check some of them out. I've been playing Vice City and Warcraft III and it's not so bad...![]()
